The Grand Wazoo

I've just heard that Captain Beefheart has died from complications connected to his MS.
A true one-off, there was no-one like him & I don't suppose there ever will be again.
Not only a musician, but also an artist.

Yes just heard that too on the radio
That is a shame
'My Head is My Only House Unless It Rains' from Clear Spot is IMHO one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever recorded

Not a fan as his music was just too avant garde for me but it is sad when an important musician passes on.

A great loss.
Beefheart was a true individual and will be irreplacable. I'm usually reluctant to use the overused term "genius", but in Beefhearts case it is justified.
By pure coincidence, yesterday I was playing Beefhearts' 'Safe as Milk' and thought how fresh, original and challenging this 40 year old recording was. Little did I know that I would hear half an hour ago that he died yesterday.
It was John Peel who said that Beefheart was 10 years ahead of his time. It think that was an understatement!
There's going to be much playing of Beefheart's recordings in the house tonight.
