Better(?) decoupling for WM8716

Hello folks, I'm just wondering to mod the power decoupling for WM8716 in my Beresford caiman

I already took a look to others threads here, and saw many recommend murata 7805sr as a first upgrade, but having some nice caps in my pocket, such as oscons, panasonic FM, rubycon ZA, and wanna first try to swap some caps around the dac chip first

Some fellows here replaced all tantalum with elna silmic II, but I'm concerned about this mod

I mean, tantalum caps are known to be very fast and low ESR, so they should fit nicely this job, at least to decouple digital section power supply

someone can explain me the benefit of swapping all caps with something slower ?

I don't want to criticize your choices, just undestand reasons ;)

What I can say it that I would advise against changing any caps around the WM8716. Quite a few people have damaged their Caiman after the double sided PCB tracks got damaged from desoldering and soldering. It is not a mod I recommended or would recommend.

Hello Stan, you are terribly right, my previous 7510 suffered a lot, I had to replace with wire some destroyed tracks :lol:

I really appreciated the new analog board in the caiman, easy to remove and easy to mod with those robust pcb tracks

Anyway I want to start just replacing the lytics in front of the 7805 with something lower ESR bypassed with a good MKP, and the other lytic located next to the dac chip with an OSCON

I would leave in place all the tantalums, I think you chose to use them for a precise reason
