Hello from London

Hello All! Just joined this forum today.

I'm an Environmental Consultant in my late twenties. I used to use headphones to enjoy music but since getting married and having a private space, I have now acquired a simple entry speakers system.

I am using a Meridian 588 CD player as source, Bel Canto S300i integrated amp, and a pair of B&W CDM 7NT. With the kindness from my uncle, I have a set of Furutech power filter and power cords also.

I listen to all kinds of music, from rock, folk, country, to classical / instrumental.

To me the B&W is a bit too soft/mellow to me (probably because I'm used to the sound of Grado! But it is a bit too bright at the end of the day). I'm considering a pair of PMC FB1i to replace my B&W. Any thoughts anyone?

The FB1 are likely to be to bright as well
Can you give us a idea of room size budget and the rest of your equipment
I would say really take your time with speaker choice Get this right and you be happy for a very long time get this wrong well it can be a bit costly to sort

Hi Phil, welcome to AoS :)

As John has pointed out the PMCs can be a tad on the bright side to, take a look here at someone having a bit of bother with the FB1i (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8767) ;)

I think if i was you i'd get to know a decent local hifi dealer & see if you can try a pair of speakers out at home on a trial before splashing the cash :)

I didn't make it clear enough in my original post, so first my apology. I was referring to my Grado headphones which are very bright sounding. To me, the B&W are not bright, just about right I would say. What I find though is that the B&W sounds too soft and mellow overall. It's very good for acoustics and folk music, but once it plays some rock music, it cannot give me the rhythm and energy. Also it doesn't seem to be analytic enough / lacking details.

My whole system is as follows:

CD Player: Meridian 588
Integrated amp: Bel Canto S300i
Speakers: B&W CDM 7NT
Interconnect: Crystal Clear Audio Cable Signature Pro (solid-core pure silver)
Speaker cable: Audioquest Type 4 (bare-wire)
Power-related: Furutech e-TP80 AC Power Filter / distribution bar, Furutech G-314Ag-18 power cord to the Meridian, Belden DIY power cord to the Bel Canto.
Rack: Atacama 2-tire rack

What I'm looking for is a pair of more neutral, open sounding, all-rounded speakers. They need to have a good bass response, not excessive, but tight, punchy and deep.
