Marantz CD94 mkII

I am having a bit of a clear out and will be listing a number of classic TDA1541A-based players in the coming months. First off is probably the most desireable - a beautiful Maranatz CD94 mkII. This needs no introduction and all I can say is that, for once, all you read about this item is correct.

I waited a long time to find this player and reluctantly need to clear some space otherwise I would have loved to keep this appreciating classic. It has all of the classic features that you don't get in new equipment - phenomenal CDM1 mechanism, 2 x S1 TDA1541A DAC chips, Black Gate capacitors - all in a simply beautiful package. As a player it is exceptional, with not a hint of digital harshness or grain. Some say as a transport, it is unsurpassed.

This example was a rare find for me, being in fantastic condition, and it comes complete with it original owner's manual, but unfortunately no box - it will be really well packaged for transport, however.

I'd be delighted to answer any questions, so please fire away....

I'm looking for circa £395 for this rare player that will put many expensive modern players to shame.

You must fit the transport bolts to this player when shipping it, otherwise the transport will be smashed on arrival.

Good luck but IMHO you are perhaps being a tad too cheap for it. Mine would have to be prised from my cold, dead, hands.....

I really just wanted to cover what I paid for it - my asking price - if someone wants to pay more, I'll gratefully take it ;)

His player is based on the mk1 and I think there are quite a number of differences between the two versions. Those differences however may not be in the areas he would be interested in.

This is my first posting. I chanced across this thread and am seriously interested in the Marantz. I have another model, the 67, seriously modded, but have always hankered to have another machine and the 94 needs no intro. as you state.

The CD94II I advertised here did sell - to a guy in Australia. The thing is I actually had 2 and was debating whether to sell the second so kept this thread open, but now thinking about it can't face selling this fabulous machine.

I do need to cut down on my CD obsession, sorry, collection. If you are after a classic TDA1541A-based player, I do have a wonderful Marantz CD80 that I would consider selling - the sound is deft and detailed and the condition of the player is fantastic.

What do the transit bolts do? In my experience they only lock down the suspension of the mech but don't stop the swingarm swinging around crazily.

In the Meridian 207, 208 and 602, all they did was stop the tray sliding open - a tightly taped wrap of bubblewrap did that too. Always thought myself that they never did much and really one needs to take your own precautions say by lodging foam etc in the mech by taking the main cover off but then that requires the recipient to do the same to remove it..
