We thought it might be a bit of fun to run a Competition in the run up to Christmas based upon the new Banner :)

Bascially, you've got to try and identify as many of the records in the banner as you can.

Here are the 'rules' :)

Answers are to be PM'd to me (http://theartofsound.net/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=320) by the 24th December (Christmas Eve).
In the event of a tie, responses will be ranked in order of date / time PM recieved.
The judges' decision is final!

Results will be announced on Boxing Day evening (26th December).

There will be a prize (!!) What the prize will be is subject to the imagination of the Management team, and Marco's wallet. Think Raffle rather than Euromillions ;)

Go for it compadres!

C'mon chaps! I can exclusively reveal that there is more than one prize, so if you're all looking at this thinking there's no way I could win if Andr'e has already replied, then you'd be wrong! I am told that there might even be a prize for a tie, so what are you waiting for? Get squinting at that banner, and PM me with your answers!

Entries closed on Christmas eve, Chris! I needed to allow enough time for 'marking', just in case I wasn't feeling particularly clever over the festive season!

Oh, right, sorry. Forget I said anything!

Ok... for the curious, there are 42 albums / record featured in this year's Christmas Banner. These ranged from the sublime (The Statler Brothers) to the ridiculous (Mr Hankey). Not the easiest competition I'll admit, which may account for why I only receieved 2 responses! But it's not quantity we value here, it's quantity, and so to the scores...

Andr'e scored a total of 40 out of 42, and succeeded in identifying some artist details on some of the more obscure releases that I didn't even know, despite me having found them in the first place!

Alex_UK scored a valiant 14 out of 42. Alex... I was impressed that you got the 'Once Upon A Christmas' by Kenny and Dolly. I wonder if you should be telling us something about your heretofore hidden depths!

For all you armchair trainspotters who didn't give it a go, here's the rundown, left to right from top to bottom....

That is seriously impressive Andre!! I really had no idea (as my score revealed!) but at least wanted to "have a go" to acknowledge the effort that went into making the banner and setting the questions - so a big thanks to Nick, who I suspect is often the un-sung hero around these parts - hope you've all had a great Christmas.

Ok, chaps, prizes are as follows:

First prize of course goes to Andre who gets a (hardly used mint condition) 1m pair of Blue Jeans LC-1 stereo interconnects with RCAs, shown here:

http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/audio/index.htm

And also a 1m Blue Jeans digital interconnect with RCAs, shown here (basically Belden 1694A):

http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/digital-audio/index.htm

These are actually very good 'sensibly priced' cables that often outperform much more expensive 'audiophile grade' designs!

Second prize goes to Alex, which is another 1M pair of (hardly used, mint condition) Blue Jeans LC-1s.

Well done, chaps! Please PM me your address and I'll send the cables off to you :)

Marco.

Alex_UK

Very sweet of you, but second is the first loser, (and in fact on this occasion the last loser!) so I really don't think I deserve or warrant a prize - maybe hold onto it for another competition, or if anyone would like it instead of me, a small donation to a worthy cause?

Marco
27-12-2010, 22:58
Lol - that's very noble of you, but enjoy it on me anyway as a thank you for your dedication to the AoS community :)

PM me yer addy, so I can send off the cable

Marco.

Don't be daft Alex you deserve it you gave the competition a go at the end of the day, give it a try you might like it. I have belden mains cable & really like it..If you don't like it just send it me :lolsign:

Thanks guys, I will graciously accept, and have responded to Marco's PM.

My Mark Grant sourced speaker cables are Belden and very good, Andre, so I doubt you'll be getting mine any time soon! ;)

Lol! See how many you can get! We're not repeating last years compo 'cos Andre's already got all the answers, but there will be a bit of festive fun in the run up to the big day. Stay tuned!

And see if you can beat Andre's best of 41 correct covers last year. Just for fun of course ;)

What about who can come up with the worst/best Xmas joke, or pics they've photographed themselves of the worst/best looking (depending on your point of view!) 'festive house' - lights and all :)
