As soon as the snow clears I will be building some 'superchunk (http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/home-audio-acoustics/7758-corner-traps-finally-finished.html)' bass traps to go in all four corners of my listening den.

I had the opportunity to hear the difference they made in a friend's house, and for the relatively tiny cost of some mineral wool slab, a bit of battening timber, some fabric and a bit of Velcro, it seems like a no-brainer to give them a go.

Has anyone else experimented with and had success with bass traps of any description?

Hi Steve.

There used to be a guy I worked with years ago called Richard Wilkes who does, or at least did, this sort of stuff for a hobby/second income. He used to be based out in Abbots Langley which isn’t miles from you. I can’t find his number I’m afraid but he used to advertise so maybe you can find him in the local phonebook.

I’ve had varying results with base traps. The problem is whether to absorb particular frequencies or try to deflect them. The only way to do this is to generate a RTA plot of the rooms acoustics and then try out various types of panel and then re measure. Yep, it’s a bit of a process but for someone with a listening room and decent quality gear well worth the effort I would have thought.
