Better late than never, I have been using this forum for a while now, mostly to follow the Beresford Caiman discussions, since I purchased one and enjoyed how it transformed my system.

I am a college lecturer, with a love for audio systems, mostly for watching movies, but in part for enjoying music. Since I watched Ghost in the Shell over a decade ago and heard tank fire behind me in a cheap surround system, I was hooked.

My first DIY speakers were a joke, but my four way actives, with PLLXO are a revelation. I have never heard anything like it and the last few years of experimentation have payed off nicely.

Great hobby the art of sound. Next I'd like to learn an instrument, perhaps Japanese Biwa!

Hi Sean, nice to see i'm not the only person on here that likes an AV system :eyebrows:

Funnily enough i have a set of semi active 4 way speakers that'll be going fully active in the future ;) Done right active speakers can be breathtakingly realistic as i have discovered in the past :) I want it now, but alas i need to be patient :doh:

Thanks for the welcome Mark. It was discovering the PLLXO route that made an active set-up accessible for me without investing in dubious and complicated pro equipment and the like.

There is no going back to messing with expensive and awkward inductors and caps at speaker level for me, especially on a four-way!

Indeed, passive crossovers are a nightmare :mental:

I actually had to look up this PLLXO to see what it's about :lol: Passive Line Level :doh: I guess as long as your drivers have a wide enough bandwidth they'll be fine on a 6Db/octave rolloff, though it wouldn't be too difficult to make them 12Db/octave with some adjustment. Anything over that they'd have to be active.

I'll actually be using a couple of Behringer 4 way mono crossovers but they'll need some modifications doing before incorporating into the system. As they are pro gear they only incorporate a time delay between the lowest Xover frequency bands. Totally the wrong position :rolleyes: I need them between all Xover frequencies to accurately time align the drivers so it appears to be coming from a single driver at the listening position.

A few op amps, capacitors & resistors will soon sort that out :eyebrows:

I just couldn't be bothered to go to the trouble of designing & building my own (like i did previously on a 3 way system) when these will do the job with subtle mods & still look decent in a rack :)

I use my system for AV too. Currently messing about with open baffles with two Eminence Alpha 15" and a Visaton B200 on each side,fed from a Behringer DCX2496.

Exactly what I had Ali, two alphas with the B200 on top, phase plugs also. I gave up resolving this combo but partly because I did not how to configure the Xover and BSc back then. Anyway, things improved very nicely adding a Neo3 on top so I well recommend that.

I now have dual alphas, Monacor 8 and 4, with a Neo3 on top. The 8" replaced the B200 and the 4" and Neo3 are baffless above the baffle;
