There are pictures of it HERE (http://www.vintage-audio.com.ua/en/cat/311/1435.html) and the service manual can be had from HERE (http://vintage-audio-laser.com/Documents-techniques-Luxman-Luxman).

Some of those old luxman decks were "all fur coat and no knickers" as we say in the UK - lovely looking on top and empty resonant shells underneath. If it's cheap enough, buy it, site it carefully and hopefully it'll sound ok, but so many of these decks were designed and made with little concern or knowledge about how structual resonances and feedback can all but ruin the sonics, masking and blurring little ambient and spatial cues in the recordings.

tnx dsjr !

I won't scan and post the PD290 review I have (very similar turntable) for fear of gently patronising comments :), but the 290 was claimed to be "pleasantly bland and inoffensive," the recommendation being to fit a mid priced cartridge (AT120e or Nagaoka MP110 in todays money) and site it on a solid support well away from the speakers.

controversial opinions ...i ve heard the 291 is a good tt , from a '85 aussie review and from two owners by themselves ...

No probs :)

Please remember that it was "us brits," or should I say Linn in Scotland, that made us all aware that turntables actually made a difference to the reproduced sound from a record and some sounded better than others. Aussie rooms may well be larger than most of our UK shoe-boxes and so the subtle effects of feedback (long before the take-off howl) may not be an issue for them as it can be for many of us.

:-) i have to say there 's a lot of differences between you Brits and the Scots :) and a scot named brit will be not extremely happy of it ...;-)
however to be honest and to my ear ther's a room of difference also between direct drive turntables (usually japanes , see pioneer pl 71 ...pl 530 ..pl ..., technics sl 10 , 1200 ...) and belt drive like english tt ...of course is only my hear but i prefer a lot the dd rice eaters :)

I wouldn't disagree with either sentiment above
