In these 'X Factor' times there's an increasing tendency for people to release second rate clones of classic tracks.

However there are a few people who manage to make something new and interesting from the original, which for me is the only point in doing a cover.

Let me start on a light hearted note with Señor Coconut and his Orchestra performing their re-interpretation of SMOKE ON THE WATER

I saw them play this at a festival and was nearly physically sick with laughter...

Atom Heart (Uwe Schmidt) at his best & most unconventional ;)

Same here :)

One of my favourite odd covers is of LL Cool J's 'I Need Love' - remodelled by Necro as 'I Need Drugs'; it's better than the original to be honest!

dont think you could call it bizarre, but i think its a very fine cover, and suits the song really well.

Excellent I've not heard that before, perhaps I should have said 'Interesting or Bizarre' not and...doh!

This is probably my favourite from Nouvelle Vague, although they almost qualify every time...Marian by the Sisters of Mercy

Purely by coincidence, playing an album by Merril Bainbridge - who did this great cover of The Pet Shop Boys' Being Boring

Stick around till about 7 minutes in, where the guitar solo part is played by the horn section.

Try the new 'Dubber side of the Moon' I think it's even better, it's certainly dubbier, or dubber, take your pick...

Sorry Chris

It isn't particularly interesting, nor is is particularly bizarre.
I might add that I so enjoyed hearing it that I didn't listen to it all the way through, so if something interesting or bizarre actually did happen I missed it :)

I was listening to this on Saturday. Holly Cole's rather downbeat version of Jungle Book's Trust in Me.

And a very clever early sample cutup where Sid James sings Syd Barrett...

I think I've only ever bought three female artists albums, this was the first after hearing this cover.

Most of these, especially the scissors sister one are akin to painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa, funny but ultimately defacing art...:(
