Anyone after a decent regulator for a Caiman or Squeezebox PSU project? Les at Avondale will let me have the boards (unpopulated) for £4.00 each if anyone is interested. You can see the regs on the Avondale website (www.avondaleaudio.com/diy-audio/tracking-pre-regulator). I think he is working on a new one and will sell me the boards he has left as a bulk buy.

I have built new Linear PSU's for my Caiman (16v) and Squeezebox (5v) using them. They need a decent heatsink if you need more than about 300ma though - the Caiman doesn't need any but my SB needed a monster!

They took me around an hour to solder the parts into them and Les's website has a datasheet for them. I can supply a parts list for what I did.

Regards

Chris

The Caiman already has a dual regulation system. the first regulation takes place in the external power supply. The 2nd regulation takes place inside the Caiman and is performed by two 78xx regulators. So the supply lines are quite well regulated.

Suggested mods for a linear PSU and Murata regs are for sonic improvements. They are not for curing any voltage regulation problems. The Murata noise specs are the same as the Caiman PSU on its own.

Yes, the regs are for anyone wanting to build themselves a high quality "linear" power supply at low cost or try a different reg in an existing one.
