Christmas wishes?

I wonder what others are hoping for for Christmas.

I can't really think of much. An Apple TV might be nice, but my Blu Ray player may be just as capable. An Onkyo digital iPod dock is another toy, but would I ever use it? I can already do digital quite well by other routes, so do I really need another?

It'd be interesting to hear what others are hankering after - or not!

I always get myself a lot of CD's for Christmas day as my good Lady doesn't know what to buy for me music wise.

Socks. I need more socks. Maybe a couple of ties, some handkerchiefs and some of those baskets with a bottle of wine in and some cheese. Probably a couple of infuriating puzzles that I will never be able to do and can go in the draw with all the others that I could never do. Possibly one of those "funny" books about what doesn't eat what or what does eat what, a manicure set and a shoe shine kit. A M&S "gifts for men" wind-up torch that will stop working by New Year. Some de-icer. Those round chocolates in red wrappers that I don't like very much.

At least if I wish for it all I won't be disappointed!

Actually, we're speaking to all the relatives and asking them not to bother - just bring themselves a happy heart and a smile, maybe a bottle of vino or two (which could help with the former) and just spend Christmas having a nice relaxing time, enjoying each other's company and eschewing the commercialism of it all. I might even remove the fuse from the TV before they get here! :eyebrows:

That said, if my Fairy God Mother is reading this, I'd really like a Ferrari California or an Aston Martin One-77, please!

A reduction in air fares for the New Year so I can afford to visit some of my family.
My butcher doesn’t forget to put aside the lamb joint I’m cooking for Christmas dinner.
A couple of the people in the adjacent flats who last year spent Christmas on their own take up my invitation this year to drop in on over Christmas for something to eat and drink.
No pine needles in my bed this year would be cool.
Thankfully I don’t have a TV.

Dave, If I ever decide to open a hi-end audio outlet (and it's not beyond the realms of possibility in the near-ish future, as there's bugger all in North Wales, should I get bored with semi-retirement) your services will be the first I call for, but you'd have to move back up to Llangollen.......

The ideal opportunity to kill two birds with the one stone? And there's plenty of woolly jumpers up here to keep your good lady warm ;)

What would I like for Christmas? Continued good health (reasonable wealth) and happiness, and that also of my wife, family (and kittens), would do nicely.

I don't really need much else :)

If re-incarnation is for real, I would like to come back as a genius wiz kid at electronics and totally alluring to the opposite sex without having to go to Spec Savers first, not alot to ask:lol: My reasons; well come 1st Jan 2011 Vat goes up to 20% meaning that for every 100 quid it cost me to buy something audio, or other, 20 quid will be taken by the treasury towards sabre rattling in a foreign lands and gifts of money to others away from this sceptered island....The empire is no more or is it? :grouphug:

The preamble leads me to ask how the increased cost is going to affect manufacturers, dealers and of course we good fellows because unless we buy, the former manufacturer and dealer will be no more (RIP), will we have to be canny and go back to the days of 'roll your own' or will a downgrade in audio components or cheap imports beckon?

Thats why I would like to be a genius wiz kid in electronics and as for the allure bit, well there is only so much fun one can have with a soldering iron, yes:eyebrows:

Just some quality time with my Wife and maybe visit relatives etc, no real desire for any material things for christmas.

I would like to go abroad for Christmas but Tracey is not too keen on flying and we are always busy with work on the days between christmas and new year so usually stay local.
Probably North Yorkshire for a drive and a walk and a snack etc them home for food in the evening.

I have found an old picture from 25-12-2007 when we went for a drive to Wharram Percy , a deserted medieval village in a field in North Yorkshire.

We had driven past the signs for it many times for years but never stopped, so we went on Christmas day to do something different :)

Tracey had bought me a Jamie Oliver book that christmas, so I looked for a simple recipe, loaded some stuff in a box in the car and off we went....

A long walk to the old village ruins....looked around for a while, walked back to the car, then some outdoor cooking for christmas day lunch.

Various types of Mushrooms in garlic, lemon, butter, pepper and thyme, fried then served on toasted Ciabatta.

The smell was amazing, garlic, herbs, etc.

Other people near us where sat in their cars eating white bread floppy sandwiches for Christmas day lunch , made me laugh as the steam from the pan was blowing towards a white car near us just out of shot to the left, I could see them sniffing the Garlic smell :lol: It did smell nice.

We did have family round at home in the evening for a meal, so we had time to ourselves for a day out then the usual christmas stuff in the evening. :cool:

As nice as that sounds (and in the summer it would be great), I actually enjoy the different seasons (and the weather that comes with it) we get here in the UK. Barmy as I am, I don't even mind a bit of rain!

Therefore, it would just feel wrong being on a beach on Christmas day, as I'd honestly rather be inside snuggled up next to a roaring log fire, watching the snow fall outside (mind you we haven't had a white Christmas in years!), with the house all Christmassy and candlelit, eating some nice hearty grub!

I realise however that this will be a somewhat minority opinion! :eyebrows:

That's just the way I am, though. I like winter to be winter, spring to be spring, and summer to be summer, etc, with all the seasons very much defined in terms of weather conditions and the changing colours of the landscape. Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year for that reason.

I'm not sure that's quite what happens in South Oz, as it seems like it's sun and blue skies there most of the year round.... Correct me if I'm wrong, though!

As long as we don't have to drive in it, Del and I both love snow and everything about a traditional Christmas.

It's why we got married on December 22nd and had our honeymoon in Austria, where there was lots of the white stuff, the temperature was -20°C, and we were holed up in a lovely snow-capped traditional Austrian hotel in Zell am See, near Salzburg, drinking Glühwein and eating Goulash - wonderful! :glug:

This'll be our seventh Winter Solstice here and we have yet to go for a bracing walk on the prom on Christmas Day- too full of goodies to brave the cold sadly :lol:

Hahahaha... Indeed! But, yes, a nice bracing walk in the outside winter wonderland is what it's all about, preferably crunching through the snow in some woody parkland nearby and observing, just before darkness descends, how nature has touched the landscape with its beauty....

Then getting back home, walking past houses with Christmas trees inside, now illuminated and glowly warmly through windows in the twilight, breathing in the icy night air, and finally arriving home with your face all red and cold, then warming your bones by the fire, as you sip a nice hot brandy (or maybe a Drambuie?) and munch some home-made mince pies. I just *love* that feeling!! :)

You can keep yer beach! ;)

Here in South Aus we also have 4 seasons, just arse about face, temps in june , july and august can drop to 4C overnight, although not cold by UK standards is still quite chilly, I get a frozen windscreen on the car about 4 or 5 times a year, Christine has never seen snow although it does snow in Victoria there are snow fields and skiing in Vic. and New South Wales in the Snowy Mountains (big dam up there too). I do miss the rain though, when we get some it doesn't rain for long and mostly runs out to sea. This is the driest City in the driest state in the driest continent. we have water restrictions all year and hosepipe bans most of the year.

Still love it though.

You guys enjoy the cold weather over Christmas, and I hope you all get what you wish for.

hi all,
for me,,, just a bit of time off from the usual, have dinner with the family,[her family this year] and later a walk with the mrs and the dog! thats all i require realy, ohh and a nice clear crisp day for that walk! As for material things,,, when i get asked what i would like for christmas these days my answer is always the same, unless its something i genuinely want and would realy use, nothing! i too enjoy the seasons and the change they bring, autum is my favorite time of the year, i realy like to see the tree's change colour and that bright blue crisp clear sky realy make's my day.:)
