hi, I'm new to this scene so please go easy on me. I've done a search but cant find much so here goes. i was thinking about taking the i2s component signals from my marantz cd52 to my marantz cda94.
1. is this a stupid idea
2. would it just be a case of taking the word, clock and data from the saa7310 to the tda1541
3. any advise on this whole area greatly appreciated

There should be 4 signals from the CD52 receiver chip that make up the I2S signal bus. You can feed them into a DAC chip, but both receiver and DAC have to be operating at the same clock frequency. 12MHz seems to be the common option.
Personally speaking, I2S should be left to connecting a receiver and DAC chip in the same piece of equipment on the same PCB. Messing about with it over a bunch of wires and across two different boards is likely to offer many challenges. As for the benefits: might have been OK when receiver chips had jitter figures running into hundreds or even thousands PPM. But most modern receiver chips have made I2S connection across platforms a bit of a gimmick.
