Hello (again?) From Kent

Hi, I think I posted this incorrectly before so thought I best to try again!

My name is Glen and I'm from the flatlands of Norfolk originally but currently living in Kent..

My musical tastes are pretty wide but basically everything with Guitars that is not Jazz music but also Dance, to classical to pop to whatever..

My system is not a "Pure" Hifi but I have a Onkyo 808 Amp, PMC Speakers and a Beresford Caiman DAC. My source is a Hermstedt Hifidelio Pro which I've "modded" to 400 GB with a silent kit. I'm using mainly Chord Cables with a few other random odds and sods.

Did I missing anything?

I've been a bit lax in my welcomes of late, so apologies Kendal for not saying hello before, especially to someone from Norfolk. Yes, I know I'm living in Suffolk now, but before that I was Norfolk 'n 'good... Suffolk 'n' close to each other, but the rivalry (especially the football) is legendary.

Interestingly :rolleyes: I have a Maidstone connection too, in that the Head Office of the company I work for is there, so I visit relatively often, and the owner of the company is also Norfolk born and bred (we went to the same school in Norwich, though he is older than me so not at the same time.)

Anyway, I don't think you missed anything. Those PMC's are very well regarded speakers and I have been tempted a few times to investigate them - one day, perhaps. Enjoy the forum - I'm sure you will - and dew yew keep a troshin', bor. ;) (I was tempted to write the whole post in Norfolk!)

What exactly is "Pure" HiFi? i don't think it really exists TBH and your setup is well deserving of the title "High Fidelity" in any case. Onkyo have always made some good stuff, I don't think PMC have ever made any real clunkers and the Caiman is an upgradable goodie.

Well I somehow ended living and working (mostly) Maidstone..Wos the company then? Maidstone not exactly the centre of the commercial universe!

I did have my eye on some "entry level" B&W Speakers, but for the budget I had the PMC's wiped the floor with them..I even did a proper listening test and everything!

Having a conversation with a Canadian the other day about UK regional accents..I'm not afflicted but I can trot it out if the need arises and he had NO IDEA what I was on about..

What I meant was that I have a single system for 2 channel and multichannel/Home Cinema, which inevitably leads to compromises, but I'm happy! I've had Yamaha Amps previously for years and kind of miss it's flexibility.. :scratch:

I'm planning to upgrade the Caiman, I've already got the replacement PSU!

Hi Kendal :) That's a rather unusual name but forgetting that for now (:eyebrows:) what is the PMC speaker you are using as a centre speaker (which certainly looks like it was designed for the job) in your gallery pics?

Thanks mate, It does seem to attract a lot of comment that, doesn't mean anything other than being a "funny" name (YMMV). I've been using it for years!

You are correct, it is a "proper" PMC centre speaker, PMC TB2+. I've got a smaller version acting as the "6" in my "6.1" surround sound. PMC have since discontinued Maple :( so I've been hunting around ebay looking for the "7" in "7.1" This surprised me as the rest of the colours are bleargh..

Why not put a wanted add in the private exhibitions area of this forum ;) Not everyone reads every post but most people certainly have a good look round the private exhibitions area.

If anyone on here sees what you are looking for they'll probably let you know :)
