I remember back in 1983 when I bought my very first Yamaha CDX1 CD player that I was only too happy to start packing off my vinyl collection in a way that people are now doing with film based cameras. As part of that restructuring I got rid of my entire collection of Be Bop Deluxe vinyl waiting desperately for it to be released on CD. Many years of waiting later, their back catalogue was indeed released and I bought it. Last night, quite late on and in darkness, I listened again to ‘Modern Music’ which always was my very favourite Be Bop Deluxe album.
On taking me back to my early days of motorcycling and being seventeen years old I realised just how quiet these recordings are when compared to bang up to date stuff. I truly love this album as it is a brilliant work of rock/pop with the unmistakable sound of ‘Forbidden Lovers’ pounding out of the Dali’s made even better by their thumping bass drum sound and gorgeous midrange guitar. This truly is class music from the seventies of which I hope I never grow out of. Classical music…! What’s that…???
