Very tidy

What's the battery pre like? Is it a kit?

Look superb Graham, good work with the DIY turntable - looks amazing - any chance of some close ups some time? The whole system looks really classy. :)

Nice but the plinth is somewhat to small and understated.

Nice set up Looks like a lot of work has gone into the plinth

Now that is one serious turntable plinth, Graham. The R200 seems like a nice match. It looks like you've created a space for another arm - any clues?

The deck is based on a Goldring Lenco L75, I've used a PTP3 (peter top plate) made by a very clever man in Holland - 4mm brushed stainless. The arm boards I had cut by a local workshop out of the same 4mm. I started the project in January this year and got it playing at the end of the summer. The plinth was the labour intensive part, I only power tools I used were a jig saw, palm sander and a drill.

Yes I can fit a 2nd arm - if everything goes to plan will be fitting a 12" Jelco in the next few weeks when I have time. In theory the small arm board should take any 9" and the large any 12"

I'm very pleased with it so far.

Thanks for the comments.

No, the pre was not a kit, Its Chinese hifi, It's a BL Audio LP1. info here (http://www.cattylink.com/page199.html)Sounds impressive for the money much more open compared to the standard Junson pre, it also times better. The major down side is only 1 input so have to use a separate switch box.

Thanks very much :)

It does sound good, open, dynamic and has wonderful bass and timing. I've a few more things planned for it which should moving things on even further.

Very very nice looking system, Graham.

I remember being at Andy P's bake off with you when we heard how great the Dino sounded with the Never Connected power supply - a real ear opener, took a fairly uninspiring phonostage to true audiophile levels.

And I love the look of your tt, as well.
Come to that, I've wanted to own a Jungsen amp for ages ...

Yep, a great system you have there! :)

Great looking deck there :)

One suggestion re the arm... Rega, on the Planar 3's with R200, put a length of tight sleeving around the sub-weight rod. I used some outer insulation from a piece of wire, which had to be tightly "wound" onto the rod and then literally jammed the lateral balance weight on the end - pic to follow. These lateral balance weights were a pita and the rods could add resonances to the arm behaviour (most notably on the Pioneer PL12D). The PL71 "version" of the R200 had a right-angled rod, keeping the weight close to the bearing assembly.

Hello Jerry :)
You're right, the NCPSU was indeed an ear opener - I just had to buy one after hearing what they can do. With the battery pre now on board, I'm a firm believer in how important decent power supplies are.

That's an interesting idea, the close-up picture shows a Jelco / Sumiko headshell with the counter weight hanging off the back of the arm. I now use an ADC LMG1 headshell which is less than half the weight so the CW is much close to the pivot point.

Do post a pic of the mod when you can.

This is an old shot taken when I first got the arm with no exit cables -

I'll try to take some more of the pivot end.

The Decca is in an old Nagaoka shell, which is very like the Sumiko, but without the azimuth adjustment. I also have a lead ballast cartridge-weight and my headshell is also strung out, giving the extra inertia I think it needs (more elegant than stick-on weights, but necessary in this arm for best bass performance I think.

You've got a nice looking system there and a gorgeous Lenco. I've come across Reinderspeter's top plate mod before; it really does look the business and that plinth is fantastic. It must have taken you days to put together if you were working with a hand jigsaw and drill. How does the PTP compare with the standard chassis, soundwise? It looks easier to mount and get rigid on the plinth, being flatter.

Welcome to the forum anyway Graham, it's nice to meet you :)

Yes it did take many days, not helped by moving house half way through, so was put on hold for a couple of months. I really should learn to use a router. The PTP is very easy to mount, though I decided to make life more difficult for myself by surrounding it with 4mm ply to give the impressions it's sunk into the plinth. tbh I did not listen to any of the donner decks (3 in total - cherry picking the motor & bearing etc) as I was not prepared to fit my cart to the crap lenco arm. I did a lot of reading before going down this route so was confident (as I could be) of what I was going to end up with.

The standard Lenco chassis & plinth is compromised in several ways, the main benefit of the PTP is to isolate the motor and as you say offer a much greater contact surface area. Plus imo it looks really cool.

12" Jelco arrived today, fair bit to do before to get it playing

I heard Graham DIY Lenco at length last weekend & it's a stunning TT with an absolutly rock solid sound! It sounded stunning with Grahams Shelter 501, an AN Io Gold & later my SPU!

Shame all the pics are gone from this thread!
