It's nearly Halloween so how about some ghost stories?

I'll go first - this is something that happened to a friend of a friend :) but he swears it to be true...

He's just moved into a rented house, living alone, it's late Autumn, Sunday afternoon, and he's dozed off sitting on the couch with the TV on. He wakes up and out of the corner of his eye it seems to him that there is someone else sat at the other end of the couch.

So he sits up straight and looks over only to see a middle aged man sat there, large as life. So he double takes, can't believe what he is seeing. Who the f*ck is this man sitting on his couch? All of a sudden the stranger gets up off the couch and walks towards the open doorway connecting into the hall.

So he jumps up off the couch and runs after this bloke shouting something like 'hey who are you and what do you think you are you doing!'

He gets out into the hallway just in time to see this fellow walk into the wall and vanish. He said he actually ran into the wall himself trying to grab the bloke.

Creepy eh?

My dad and step mom bought a very old house, bits as old as 400 years old.. We used to hear footsteps upstairs clear as day, smell pipe tobacco and freshly baked bread walking into an empty house. I saw a woman sat at the far end of my bedroom once too... All very odd. I have also seen a person move past a doorway in Hanna's parents house ... A girl sat by Hannah at the end of our bed on numerous occasions ... Plenty of stuff ...
The later ones could be just me though as I hear voices sometimes and often see people an faces when I close my eyes ... Who knows eh

PART 1 :I used to work nights,I worked in a high school (night Custodian)
The place was built in the 60's and 70's and looked like a prizon,40 foot concreate walls with ramparts as part of the desighn, inside was a off white tile floor with orange ,red and yellow tile and metal walls, very long hallways with lots of doors much like a scene from the movie the Shineing when Danny was on his big wheel.

I worked till 11:30pm each night and because it was in a high crime neiborhood we chained the panic bars down from the inside makeing it totaly impossable to enter with out breaking one of the glass doors.

For the first 6 months nothing out of the ordanary, then when dumping trash I clearly heard foot steps walk up and stop behind me then stop.
I turned around and no one was there.
I then checked all the door chains and did a room by room search to find no one.

After a month or so every time I'd vacuum room #10 or anywhere near that room the cord would become unplugged.

There would be lots of slack in the cord so I couldn't have jerked or pulled it out and the socket fit tight.

Finnaly in the corner of the Hall while vacuuming the little red walk off mats in the tile hallway next to room #10,the cord suddenly flew out of the socket as if it was ripped out and came to rest 3 to 4 feet from the socket right before my eyes.

I hit the panic bar trying to get out then scrambled to find the right key on a massive ring of at least 20 looking for the right key number with shakeing hands.

I went to the lead man and told him what was going on,turns out he won't work in that building and me being new they gave it to me.

The story behind the haunting is a chilling one.

PART#2

Rick ,The old lead man,Now passed on took me to the basement and showed me some metal wall pannels with pelet holes from a shot gun,an old IBM typwrighter and later brought me an old 1975 yearbook I belive from the school arcives.

Seems there was a student who got his girl freind pregnet, she was at said high school he was sent to an ajoining on campus continuation school for other reasons.

She told him they where finnished and she didn't want him to be in her or the babeys life when born.

He went in though a large front plate window by blasting it out with a 12 gauge shot gun. before it was all classrooms back then it was the main office and room #10 was the secretarys front desk!
He went in and started typeing a good bye letter on the secretarys typewrighter, then the police showed up because of the silent alarm. He took a shot at the police officer so he backed off till back up and SWAT could get there.Well 15 min. later they herd another blast, after a few minuts they went in to find the top of his head in a hanging potted plant. I could then see where they had to grind part of a concreate wall to remove the pellet marks and blood stains.

Funny thing is the kid in the yearbook had strawberry blond hair, had a red plade shirt flannal, geans and looked and dressed very much like me!

Come on lads this is pretty poor its nearly the witching hour - although Jeff's story is top rank has to be said. No-one else has any stories to share?

I lived in a house that was supposed to be haunted for four years. Built 1881. Rented it from and old pal who had lived there himself for a few years. He saw nothing himself but his wife saw a plump middle-aged woman in victorian dress a couple of times. The daughter said she used to wake up to see a 'green man' stood at the end of her bed.

The front faced south and in the summer it got warm and I used to leave the back door open and the neighbours cat would wander in and go to kip lying on its back in the middle of the rug. Sometimes, though, it would wake with a start, run up the staircase and stand on the upper landing meowing for all it was worth.

You could go and pick him up and carry him back down but as soon as you put him down he would run right back up and start again. I used to have to carry him out the back and close the door so he couldn't come back in.

Curiously when I related this odd behaviour to my landlord pal he told me that when he lived there he had an Alsation dog that would behave in the same way, running up to the top landing and barking continously. He used to have to put the lead on it and drag it out to the back and tie it up.

Years later another friend of mine rented the house - he had two cats - i went round to visit and asked him if his cats ever ran up to the top landing and meowed at nothing.

'Yes - quite often - How did you know that?' he said...

Interesting stuff guys.

I've had a few discussions where with people saying this stuff can't occur/doesn't occur. There have just been too many reports to discount.

Little for me; my parents stayed in an old rented cottage in Wiltshire whilst their place was being built. My Dad, something of a scientist, goes pretty quiet on the subject now.

When we were all kids, we had a caravaning holiday Somerset way IIRC. In almost perfect flat countryside, we all heared the sound of cattle running , tho' nothing could be seen. It lasted about 7/8 seconds. I looked at my dad as the noise went away and he just shrugged.

Some strange events on my Mum's side, little on Dad's.

Not meaning to (literally) rob the body from The Grand Wazoo's grave thread, but Monday will be a bit late for resurrecting this one...

Plus, I'd like some help on the Halloween Playlist - any more suggestions?

I experienced poltergeist activity in my house about 3 months ago.
I live in a semi and my neighbours sometimes have all night rows. One night about 1 am I could hear muffled scratching and thumping sounds. I thought that's not the neighbours. I couldn't work out where the sound was coming from. The next night I heard it about 2 am.
The next morning I heard a woman's voice whisper the word "coffee". I went downstairs and there was 2 brown envelopes on the mat. They're either very good or very bad. I opened them. Two invites for job interviews.
I went back upstairs and got my mobile to phone my parents. I pressed the button to bring up the screen and a text message had been spontaneously created but not sent to a good riend that said "Fat Pig".
A few weeks later I was redecorating my spare bedroom and stripped off the wallpaper. The words "Jo 1976" were painted on the wall. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.
Previous to this, the icons on my laptop and my mobile would spontaneously move by themselves.

Hi it's Natalie, Dom's partner. I thought I would let you know about these 2 stories of ghosts. My niece Hollie moved into her new house which was built in the 40s. He son Charlie who was 4 at the time was chuntering away to himself in his room. Hollie walked in his room and asked Charlie who he was talking to, he replied "the old man", Hollie asked "what old man Charlie", an Charlie's reply was the old man that comes in my room and tells me stories about the war. When Hollie checked out the details, she established that an old war veteran had died in Charlie's room. To me this must be true, because little 4 year old's don't really know how to lie.

My other ghost story is that my mum had 7 girls, but before that she had twin boys that died in Ireland were she lived with my dad before returning to England in the late 50s. My mum was sat in living room one evening and my dad was snoozing on the sofa. They had a old wooden mother plaque on the wall, you remember the one's that were made of wood and had like a floral design around it with some message about how much you love and care for your mum. Anyway, all of a sudden my mum hears someone whispering "mum mum, she was listening to my dad and she heard it again "mum mum. The next thing was the wooden mother plaque fell off the wall. My parents are catholic so they spoke to the priest and the priest said he believed it was her sons telling her that they were looking out for her. I don't know what it was, but my parents house always seemed a little spooky to me sometimes.

Natalie:)

My parents used to live in an Elizabethan farm house in Sheffield. One day we all came back from taking the dogs for a walk. As we walked in to the house we noticed from the kitchen that that the curtains in the dining room were closed with only a few inches ajar. Walking in to the dining room I noticed that the cellar head door was also open. The cellar head door went in to a small office and then down some stone steps in to the cellar.
The stone steps had recently been discovered along with a priest hole at the other end of the house in alignment with the Church across the street and the pub. We apparently found that there was a tunnel linking the church and the pub but this had been filled in a long time ago.

I walked in to the office and then went in to the cellar. The cellar had a very low vaulted ceiling with a stone channel carved in to the floor. The channel linked from and to some stone carved holes at each end of the cellar. The first time we went down in to the cellar the stone channel was dry, but this time the channel had a steady flow of water running down it rather neatly. This was strange as it was summer and we were actually in the middle of a drought at the time, hose pipe ban etc.

Back in the dining room we were all feeling a little strange, uneasy as when I came back up from the cellar a smell entered the house. The smell was of rotting fish, we investigated further throughout the house, the smell was worse upstairs and towards my old bedroom. By the way, the opposite end of the house to the toilet and the drains.

The smell was so bad we opened all of the windows. After phoning a few people like a plumber etc the next door neighbors told us to chech the drains outside too.

As we walked downstairs the smell simply vanished, instantly.

A few days later my father was in the dining room looking at a book when he noticed somebody walk past the door in to the kitchen. He walked in to the kitchen and found the lights off. Tuning back he walked in to the living room and ask my mother if she had been through, she had not and nobody had.

Almost a year or so later they sold the house and about a month in to their new house they had a phonecall from the people who bought the house. The lady sounded upset and very anxious to speak to my mother. The lady asked if my parents had ever seen a ghost in the house to which (quite understandingly as not to cause any further upset) my mother said no. The lady then said that she was speaking to a small boy with blonde hair in the dining room the night before.

My cousin sadly died 5 years previously, he was only 10 years old and the lady described him perfectly, even down to his smile.

I experienced poltergeist activity again last night. I drank too much Diet Coke and couldn't sleep. As I was lying in bed ho humming about if I should just get up and watch some TV I felt my duvet being pulled from the side a couple of times. It didn't move all that much but it happened twice.
I don't believe in God, the Devil, ghosts, astrology, seances etc. but poltergeist activity seems to result from the subconscious human mind.
It's not that it happens that I'm curious about, but by which mechanism?
By which law of physics can this be explained? I'm buggered if I know.

Bit late but this one but a friend and myself visited a castle down Strangford Lough called Audley's Castle ( a single tower) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audley's_Castle

We explored it and I must say that I was not particularly happy as I felt uncomfortable there. On are way back down the stairs, typical castle ones, made of stone, spiralling downward,my friend in front of me (I don't like having people behind me on stairs like this) I was suddenly shoved from behind and a silver cross I used to wear was yanked from my neck. I stooped to pick it up of the steps and was shoved again. There was no one there. I urged my friend to pick up the pace and we left very quickly. When we got outside he asked what the hurry had been. I told him.

I have never been back again.

I have one slightly odd, and one not very spooky, incident to report. Some years back, I was walking with my younger daughter to the local park. From somewhere above me, on the other side of the road, a voice called out 'Joe!'. At that time, at the place where the voice seemed to originate from, there was only a single-storey building that was empty outside business hours. Some years later though, that building was demolished, and a row of terraced houses was built, with upstairs windows from which a voice might have come ...

The other incident wasn't actually spooky, though it seemed so briefly. I was walking in the countryside on a misty winter's morning (I can't remember where exactly). In a field on the other side of the road, I saw what I thought was a giant black dog, hovering slightly over the ground. Indeed, had I been passing in a car, I would have sworn that's what I'd seen. As it was, when I got a bit nearer, the 'dog' revealed itself to be two black bin liners caught on some barbed wire.
