Hi there
I'm looking for advice on best Aerials for loft intstallation or outside (Chimney mount) - including recommendations for cables to link from Aerial to FM Tuner - want to try this out on my modest Marants ST400 to see how much of an improvement I get over in room wire type aerials before splashing out on a 70's super tuner.

PS open to offers if you've got something good that you are not using.

Hi Damian, how far are you from the transmitter & are you line of site to it or are there any large buildings in the way?

An external aerial will no doubt be better if it's a distance away, i don't think i'd consider any loft mounted aerial unless the transmitter was local (within 5 - 10 miles) ;)

In the 70's I went to town on a multi element array with low loss down-lead. In my case this was a waste of money and was not the best choice. Because, I had so much signal that it overloaded all of my tuners.

I had to fit an attenuator. Also, I could not get the range of stations that I had before. The reason for this is that a multi-element aerial is more directional.

I removed quite a lot of the reflectors and settled for that, no attenuator needed, and I could get all those stations again.

Aye, in a lot of cases something like this is good for multiple transmitters ;) Externally mounted on a 6ft mast on a chimney so it's above the rooftop, these are pretty good indeed :)

yes i had one of these and on a recent demo with the new bel canto FM1 i discovered the signal strength wasn`t up to scratch [altho maybe the position was bad] so i had a new aeriel fitted to my chimmney for 140 quid fully fitted and makes a fair bit of difference to the sound . very enjoyable now
