my very humble setup

Hi

here's my very humble setup

Cambridge Audio 640a with the Sony DTC-690 DAT
then the Marantz CD-72 and a cheap dvd player just for watching films out of the main room.
Then one of my treasured items - and one of my true loves of music, a genuine Bruce Springsteen - A night For The Vietnam Veteran show poster.

The CA Amp was bought as a make do as the Arcam 7 Amp I had was pass the point of repair so as I stop gap I was tempted by the 640, and I'll keep it a while as it's a very good amp. The DTC-690 was a replacement for a DTC-55ES I had that was going to cost more in repairs then a new one ! Thanks Sony Repair centre !.
The Marantz CD-72 I have had from new which if I recall was 1992, I wanted the CD-72 Speical Edtion at the time but just couldn't push the extra cash it's way.

I have a large-ish collection of music, a lot of Springsteen stuff (used to love going to record fairs on the hunt for new items). a lot of Dave Matthews Band stuff also.

I used to collect live shows on DAT from way back. I think at one point I had over 400 DAT's of live shows(bootlegs)

Thanks for taking the time to post your system pictures Paul. I always lusted after the CD-72 SE, but by the time I was in the market for my first CD Player it was the CD-63 KI Signature that I ended up with. Now on my third Marantz KI spinner and loved them all.

The Cambridge Audio kit does seem to be very well regarded, and a bit of a bargain.

I had my doubts about the CA stuff but after trying it for a while it was in my opinion better then the arcam.
I'm also tempted to replace the marantz with the new CA 650c which has had excellent reviews.

I'm also looking at replacing the Denon iPod dock for something that will charge my iPhone as I use that for listen to a bit of internet radio on wifi in the house (I love www.1075frank.com as Maine is my fav state)

At the moment Wharfdale Diamond 4's but I have a pair of Kef Cresta 30's from a system that I never really setup which I'm going to connect up tomorrow was going to do it tonight but we are watching Back To The Future blu ray, which is awesome !!!
I'd forgot what a good film BTTF is. Hopefully we won't watch all 3 parts tonight !

Good luck with the Crestas, i'm not sure i can remember them except something tells me they used the B110 & T27? :scratch: Could be wrong there though :eyebrows:

They shouldn't be bad at all, a little wooly (Bextrene cone) & possibly bass light (not the biggest bass driver :eyebrows:) but definately serviceable :)

Diamond 4 - top budget minature - more fun than the KEFs I reckon.

I'm also a big BTTF fan but it's not possible to watch all 3 back to back without having an anyurism or seizure :) I've tried it...

Na thats the original Cresta B110/T27..
I bought my mate a pair of Cresta 2, tiny speakers (black leatherette fronts), modern units, the tweeters rips my ear drums but somehow they sound very good with his stereo.Amazing bass responce from such a tiny speaker.Cresta 30 i don't know but were even newer floor standers.

Glad you're getting such good results from your setup. DON'T KNOCK CAMBRIDGE AUDIO... It's well made, and well designed, if not to some tastes.

well we have made it through the the 1st BTTF, it's truly been well remastered. So glad we bought (£12 from amazon as I had a discount code :eek:)

I'm going to give the Kef's ago tomorrow afternoon and see what happens.
the room in the hifi is in is a small room so if they dont work well i'll have a look for some new bookshelf speakers.

Try the ipod dock from Apple, i've got 1 and it works great, comes with all the fittings for different models etc, connects to your amp via phono plugs from a 3.5mm jack in the back of the dock, charges your ipod too and has a remote.

the only thing i would change is the phono cable as the apple one is a bit cheep.

I picked mine up from ebay for less than £20 new

I never think of getting Apple stuff like that, I'll have a look in to it.

I was thinking about the Cambridge Audio ID10 or the ID50 if I could get that cheap
