:)G'day to all, as with trembling fingers on keyboard I introduce myself :eyebrows: kicking off with the moniker bit which is 'Jazz' which, hopefully, gives all an indication as to the type of music I listen to most... obscure national anthems... joking, joking folks. I like jazz (mainstream, west coast), classical but not the heavy stuff, acoustic instrument and voice, especially female like Ella and Joe Pass unplugged, and a bit of rock that I can understand. Yup, I'm a battered old codger so have been round the block with audio equipment from parents' Grundig radio gram up to pre computer stuff. Have been collecting vinyl since it first came out and I'm still doing so although they (vinyl) now cost mucho money!

Have been in another forum, accent on direct drive turntables, especially the Tekko 1210 which I have... I hear you groaning at the back:rolleyes: and want to learn more from others here.

Have one on me Ron, and welcome to AOS while you're chugging it! There are a few members here who like tweaking the techie :rolleyes:, so I'm sure you'll have the opportunity to knock any ideas you might have about the place!

When you say 'mainstream and west coast' jazz, qu'est-ce que? I like Bill Evans, some John Coltrane, and the more modern ECM stuff like Pat Metheny's experiments in the 80's, and Bill Frisell's in the 90's... I'm not sure that's what's tapping your foot though ;)

What's the rest of your system apart from the Technics?
As for West Coast Jazz, I never got much beyond Getz & Brubeck. Chet Baker has been one of those artists I have a couple of albums by & never got around to getting more. God knows why, I love the stuff I have.

Many thanks for the welcome. Yup, Bill Evans and all you've mentioned do it for me too and I reckon all good music does it as well. Looking forward to learning alot from here and not just the Tekko bit. Its getting late so will post questions tomorrow when both eyes are open:)

Hi Ron, welcome to AoS. I should maybe tone-down my welcome posts a bit, as I seem to whip myself into a frenzy with enthusiasm when anyone new joins. So there'll be no mention of me loving jazz records almost as much as I love jazz mags. No, Siree. I shall absolutely make no attempt to do do any "bones" gags either - don't think I've got the spine for it these days, and though I may think so, I'm just not that humerus.

Will come back later as I'm off to MacDonalds for brekky... the wife, her sister and 90 y.o. mum have gone to the Canaries leaving me to fend for myself for the next week... oh woe is me:rolleyes: Great opportunity to lead foot the volume pedal, play everything [B]I like[B], raid Butch the Fridge for a coldy and just slob out and enjoy. I do miss the cooked meals bit though.

Back in my student days we were 3 lads sharing a big apartment. One summer Steen’s older sister and her boyfriend stayed for a week. When they left he said: ”thanks for the stay… it had been a long time since I have listened to so much music and at a proper volume”.
