Use of DAB falling in UK

FM listening is up, as are digital sources other than DAB

Yep, now using my Squeezebox Touch for radio and will be selling my DAB tuner shortly... :)

Cars! I bet a large portion of radio listening hours on in cars, and i bet a large percentage of those cars don't have a dab, especially as not many cars are made by English companies ...
Not to mention the fact the dab is shit, especially where I live where you can get a much better fm reception than dab. And if I want to listen to the radio I can get it through the computer, the tv, the sky box, there is just no reason for having a dab radio ...
The only radios we really sell in the shop now are wifi ones, all the Roberts stock is discounted and for the most part it just sits there ... The only ones we sell being the cd/clock radio/iPod dock things like the mp53 ... And they just sell based on there "midi system" hifi quality sound out of a box a fraction of the size.

That all said, this seems to be based on a statistical change over 1 quarter ... Statistical changes over single or even a few points of measurement arent exactly worth taking much notice of

It looks like a publicity stunt by the people who want fm to stay to me... Not that I'm complaining really, good luck to them... But making claims on one quarter of stats is a bit o a limp argument!

i was sitting in the new fantastic nissan juke this week which will surely sell in its thousands , there was no sign of a dab radio, just a fm , it had bluetooth and mp3 but no dab as far as i could see.

millions of radios in cars are still fm and 20% of listening is done in cars so thats a lot of advertising lost if they switch these guys off

i just had the new bel cant FM1 on demo which has just been released
wow what stunning reproduction. just superb , listening thru sonos or my existing fm tuner not a patch on this new boy
altho its 1299 new which is a lot of wedge i hope to save up for one

i spotted another new valve fm tuner in a hifi mag the other day ... there must be a general feeling that fm isnt going anywhere if these companies are willing to out the r&d into churning out new models

did you mean dab ?
was it the md 90t valve tuner you saw ? certainly very tempting but the bc is more compact and has a supplied remote . certainly even my cyrus fmx sounds much better than the linn 320kps broadcasts on my sonos so it still beats internet radio [imho]

In ye olde days, before solid state electronics, valve FM tuners used to drift out of alignment very readily. Are they any better today?
