B1 buffer

I've got a B1 buffer that I'd like to build into my preamp.Would the buffer be best inserted on the input or on the output,preamp uses a LDR volume control.

A buffer is best used on something with a high output impedance & used to drive a low impedance.

You give very little information :scratch: What are you feeding the pre amp with & what is it's output impedance & the pre amps input impedance. Also what is the pre amps output impedance & what are you driving from the pre amp?

You might not need to install a buffer anywhere, just remember that less can be more :eyebrows: Just because you have it doesn't mean you'll gain anything by installing it, less circuitry is better in a lot of cases..

I have been using it independently with an Apogee DAC direct straight into a Audio Note amp with good results.
I've got my preamp back from a few upgrades by Paul Hynes.I thought it would be nice to implement it into the preamp possibly switchable as I like what it does.
hence the question install it as a dedicated buffered input or have a switchable buffered output.

Hi Rob, haven't you possibly answered your own question? :scratch: If you like what it does where it's installed at the moment (input or output) then a few less connections may well improve things further still ;)

I totally agree that less is most often more, but I shudder when I think of each channel of a mixing desk with eq, compression and pan potting etc. that could be 16 to 48 or more channels on our favourite old "analogue" recordings......

Don't worry too much. Naim don't fit external tone controls to their preamps, but played down the simple fixed filters inside their early preamps - better versions still used even today I believe - the early versions of these filters having just as much influence, if not more, than any tone controls.......
