Amplifier PSU

Evening chaps, having purchased a T-amp, the thing sounds amazing, however the PSU is a pathetic looking mains plug rated at 12v 5A, so would a stiffer PSU ie 12V 5A or even bigger improve the sound quality further, if indeed it would, where would l buy such a PSU, cheers- Andy:).

A linear supply is generally supposed to improve things as opposed to a smps.Ebay is a good source of such.

Sorry chaps, the PSU is 12V 2A, so idiot question would a 12V 5A PSU be ok and would l get any improvement:).

Yes a 12V or 13.8V 5Amp supply will be fine ;) Think of the PSU as an engine, if you are asking it to give it's full performance all the time by running only a 2Amp supply then it'll sound a little strained possibly. If you give it a heavier current supply & the amp can still only produce the same power, the PSU will supply it dead easily & the sound should sound much less forced.

It should in theory sound better as you won't be asking it to give it's all, it'll be like it's just chugging along happily :eyebrows:

A 12v 5A PSU would be fine - the T-amp will only draw what it requires.

Thanks for the help chaps, is the 12V 5A PSU as far as l can go, is there any specific PSU manufacturers l should be looking at or any E-Bay jobbie be ok, thanks again.:)

There is little point in throwing a bigger supply at it than 5Amp, a 10Amp supply apart from costing loads more probably won't improve the sound.

Just make sure it's a linear regulated supply & not switch mode (SMPS) :)

If you aren't sure if something will do the trick then link to it on here for another opinion. As i mentioned earlier, a 13.8V supply will be fine, have a look about for a CB or ham radio supply ;)

You could always try an SLA. I did this with my Trends TA10.1, and there was a very small difference. Not I said difference and not improvement. I thought the SLA made the bass slightly better, but I thought the treble was not quite as good.

The Maplin supply is probably lower current, but it'd still do the job.
