Is it just me or have e-mail alerts stopped coming through in the last 24 hours or so?

MartinT

...and I just got my first alert again this morning after a break of some time. Peculiar, I haven't changed any settings anywhere.

I usually get an email when I get a PM, or a post in my "subscribed threads" but that didn't happen yesterday. I got one now when I sent a PM to myself (I do the same at Valentines) so must have been a gremlin in the works yesterday I suspect.

MartinT

Yes, I think there was a gremlin as my alerts are flowing in fine again.

That's good to hear chaps. I should say that I didn't pull any gears inadvertently left in neutral, so it sounds like a temporary issue with the mail delivery system. If it happens again let me know on this thread. I monitor these things for Quality of Service :)

I haven't had any emails for a few days, despite getting PM's during that time. I hope it is all sorted soon. Cheers.

MartinT

Sorry to say they've stopped again. For instance, I didn't get an alert for Steve's post above.

I've checked the server and email are being generated by the forum, but I also haven't received any emails since 23:57 last night, and I know there are emails that I should have received that have been generated.

I will raise this with Global Gold and get them to check the outgoing forum mail servers.

Any joy, Nick? I'm not getting a damned sausage through now.

I'm in discussions with our forum host...

Can everyone who usually gets emails please post to this thread if these have stopped in the last few days? Are any of you getting the 'Daily digest' notifications? what about 'Instant' notifications?

It has been suggested that we may be over our package limit in terms of emails being sent out, but I am skeptical. The above info would help me work out if my skepticism is properly placed or not.

I got one solitary alert about an hour ago - most odd. If you have hit some kind of e-mail quota limit then it's in keeping with the strange behaviour we're experiencing at the moment.

MartinT
25-10-2010, 18:01
And now a whole flood of them! You must have been persuasive!

Beechwoods

Hmm. Same here - I got my first at 18.11, and another at 19.28. I'll follow this up tomorrow, as I want to be sure that whatever they've done is permanent rather than temporary. I don't feel I've had a convincing root cause yet; but they were going to do some analysis and get back to me anyway, so I'll hopefully find out what's gone on once they have :)

Well Global Gold have increased our email quota by 60% which should give us a bit more headroom! You'd be surprised how many emails get generated per day with notifications and alerts…

MartinT
26-10-2010, 09:17
Great job, Nick, many thanks for sorting it out. I do rely on alerts especially when I'm mobile.

MartinT
27-10-2010, 05:32
And now dried up again!

Beechwoods
27-10-2010, 06:32
Thanks for the tip off, Martin! I'm on the case again :)

There was a glitch server side with the sending of mails. I have been informed that it's now fixed and should not happen again. Fingers crossed!

MartinT
27-10-2010, 11:04
Thanks, Nick. Now seem to be flowing through again.

MartinT

Have e-mail alerts died again? Nothing received in the last 12 hours despite numerous posts.

Hi Martin,

PM Nick about this, in case he misses it here :)

Marco.

MartinT

Will do Marco, thanks.

Support ticket raised. Will let you know how I get on.

There was a database error, which I'm told has now been resolved. The issue should now have been cleared.

I will need to check which new user activation emails were missed, and retrigger these, and I'll also check we've not missed any new user registrations.

Marco
01-12-2010, 17:10
Cheers Nick. I don't use email alerts, so wasn't aware of the problem...

We still appear to be getting new user activation emails though as I've authorised about five of them already today :)

Marco.

According to my records (:eyebrows:) we're missing emails for users 3466 - 3473 :) If we didn't get the emails, it's likely they didn't either. I can resend the activation emails manually for the affected users though. It's no trouble.

MartinT
01-12-2010, 17:54
Thank you, Nick. Glad I alerted you to the problem(!)

Jeez... Yes, please do! We'd best watch this situation in future carefully.

Martin, please let us know A.S.A.P if your email alerts stop again for any reason :)

Marco.

Will do :)

It's OK Marco, I keep an eye on it anyway, but I think Martin picks up on any issues more quickly than I sometimes get to them! We get a steady stream of new user emails, so if more than 6 hours goes by without getting one, I start to worry :) I'll email you separately with some notes on how to tell if any have been missed...

MartinT

No e-mail alerts since 13:00 today.

MartinT
20-01-2011, 15:28
...and one came in just now, so a three-hour hole. I checked and there were posts that should have generated an alert.

Beechwoods
20-01-2011, 18:06
Thanks Martin. Did anyone else notice this? None of the emails I get were affected, but that could be a matter of timing...

MartinT
26-01-2011, 10:25
No e-mail alerts since 07:14 this morning.

MartinT

Alerts are back now as of 11:02.

Beechwoods

Martin. A ticket has been raised; can you let me know of a post that should have triggered an email, but didn't? GG can't find any evidence of a problem at the back-end yet, but that doesn't mean to say there isn't one.

MartinT
26-01-2011, 17:50
That's really hard as my deleted items emptied between work and home :(

Just received three e-mail alerts dated yesterday (Sat) around lunchtime, mixed in with alerts for today. Possibly associated with the hiccup last night?

Beechwoods
14-02-2011, 10:43
I've already raised a ticket with GG today regarding delayed emails. Will let you know how I get on. I had a bunch of 8 or 9 together at 13:31 yesterday before the glitch in the evening.

MartinT
14-02-2011, 10:46
And now I've just received several from Thursday.

Same here, a batch of old Emails, I thought it was my email server was playing up

Beechwoods

This just in:

There was some bad mail in the queue that was effecting mail delivery, this has now been cleared and mail is flowing.

Which does tie in with the gush we've seen. Let's keep an eye on it :)
