Ripping SACD/DVD-A

I'm getting very keen on the high definition music (24-bit/92KHz), but there doesn't seem to be much out there in terms of popular music. I have already obtained some classical/jazz hi rez FLACs, but that's not really my kind of music.

There are, to my knowledge, some hi rez issues of some popular titles (Pink Floyd, Santana, etc.), but a.) hard to find, and b.) need a hi rez player.

My question: what's the best way to get a hold of these hi rez discs, and how can I rip them to FLAC in order to play them on my Squeezebox Touch?

You cannot rip SACDs with normal amateur equipment. There are mods for certain SACD players that allow you to capture the stream and programs like dbpoweramp have codec plugins to convert an SACD file - but really, don't bother trying. Sony made sure that NO home computer drive can read the SACD layer of the discs even if the physical format is the same as a DVD.

DVD-A can be ripped and converted. I use dvdaudioextractor from www.castudios.org - works really well with the usual "small software house" niggles of useability.

I have and use the DVD Audio Extractor program too - it's a good tool to use.

You can also extract MLP content from DVD-Audio discs only using either DVDAExplorer or Foobar.

Hi, your link should read http://www.castudio.org/ and it works very well. I downloaded Diana Krall Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival in DVD format from http://www.24bit96khz.org/ and extracted the music track, excellent. If you consider to download from this site it is worthwhile to pay a month's File Factory premium , about $10 and download and use File Factory Turbo.
