I'm Ian & I've been dabbling with hi-fi, on & off for many years. I've landed here through my renewed interest in modding my Beresford 7510 which, in turn, was spurred on by the arrival of a pair of ATC 50A's :)

Hi Ian & welcome to AoS :) I can't say i'm surprised you are kind of spurred on to better things with an active pair of ATC 50s 2861

Lovely pair of speakers you have there, what type of music are you feeding them? I think you'll find a lot of people on here listen to just about anything so don't be shy :eyebrows:

I've been lurking for quite a while actually.
I'm feeding them quite a varied diet - indie, folk, blues, soul/funk, rock, even some NIN & QOTSA, oh, and of course, Radio 4 :lol:

I put a good friend of mine onto ATCs. He bought these bloody awful speakers that cost £7000 new (i kid you not :eek:) though he did get them secondhand without auditioning them.

I honestly haven't heard anything as bad for many years, even a pair of give away Hitachis' sounded better :eyebrows:

Anyway he got rid at a bit of a loss & i suggested ATC SCM20SLs & he found a pair for just over £600 secondhand but in as new condition... Well he raved about them & said it was the best money he'd spent on his hifi :)

2 weeks later he was saying they had no midrange :lol: :mental: Funny that considering the 3" soft dome centre cap of the bass/mid is the same as the mid in your 50s & the voicecoil is 3" diameter to :rolleyes: I have a single one here & it sounds fantastic to me :lolsign:

Passive ATC20's NEED shedloads of power to make 'em go and in fact I'd respectfully suggest they have a touch too much mid as the bass is so dry and the tweeter usually kept in restrained mode ;) This particular speaker realy needs 150WPC at least and one of the better pro 300WPC+ amps would be lapped up.
