Nagaoka MP110

Morning all just recieved my Nag MP110,l have researched this cart for a long time,and thought this could be a cartridge for me, so she shows up this morning, well packaged, the mounting screws are slotted! Anyway fitting the Nag is a bit of a pain as the mounting screws have to go into nuts on the underside of the cartridge, anyway it looks well made but l could not get the cart as tight as l would have liked in the Sumiko headshell, tracking weight in the manual is between 1.50g-2.0g, so l set it up at 1.75g and had a quick listen-very nice,warm musical full, does any one know the optimum tracking weight and the running in time of the cart, l will go back to it this evening but so far so good:)

Glad its going well so far Tarzan. (Sorry, can't remember your real name - any chance you could update your details?)

I use 1.8g on my MP-15 which is fine - and in a Sumiko headshell too, so 1.75g sounds about right. Mine was an unused example from DSJR on here - can't say I noticed any effects of running in, to be honest - just sounded bloody fantastic from the word go! ;)

Thanks Alex will muck about with the tracking weight later, a bit suprised how crisp it is sounding was expecting something a bit more diffuse, but Jesus it sound good- it is Andy btw, ;)

Hi Darren, this cart is a keeper! Warm, rounded, refined, good tonal colours and very very musical, and a strange thing surface noise has been curtailed- l really like this cart! It doesnt give a great deal away to my Helikon, l am suprised how good this sounds for the money, today l listened to: The Moody Blues- Days of future passed, SRV- Couldnt stand the weather, Mike Oldfield -Hergest ridge, l listen most stuff that is good, mainly rock from the late sixties to early seventies, hope this helps:).

I have 1 resevation though and this is the 'warm' character you described.

Does this give music a softish presentation as i do like a more neutral sound maybe with a small touch of warmth.

I'm also very interested in this cartridge ,as a replacement for my long in the tooth DL160 :) though i am now looking at the MP150 also .

Darren Chris, it does sound warm and crisp- but NEVER offensive, in my set-up l you can listen to it all day it does not sound diffuse, it is well focused, but not anatynical in any way, l will do some more listening today and get back to you this evening, in my opinion it kicks my Stanton 681EEE into next week.

my DL160 has a certain softness about it ' which is good for bright or digital recordings but not an ideal match for older recordings , i have now changed the loading to 1k as it does tighten it up a bit .

I'm looking for a slightly brighter sound though so could be interesting.

The worst thing about us all waxing lyrical about the Nagaoka range is that Marco is bloody right again! ;) But seriously, and as others have added in other threads, they are now getting rediscovered and I suspect they work especially well with Techie DDs, amongst others.

the last time i looked at the price of the MP 110 it was £62 now it's £75.

Is that at Musonic? £75 seems about right, currently, looking at other suppliers.

I've not looked there but everywhere else is selling them at around 75.

I wonder if the others in the range have gone up as well?
