The Grand Wazoo

You may have seen Nick’s post in Critic’s Corner yesterday about Name and Location... and Saying Hello (if not, then you’ll find it here (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8013)).

This is all about ensuring the friendly atmosphere we have on The Art of Sound remains, and part of that is to try to encourage people to be on (real) first name terms. It’s something that is second nature to most of the regular faces here, but perhaps is not what all newcomers are used to from experiences on other places on the internet.

Nonsense usernames like (The Grand Wazoo, for example) are fun and are useful as they can help to flesh out your personality to other members. But when it comes to communicating with real people (and after all, that’s what we all are….well most of us anyway!), you just can’t beat a real first name.

So with all of the above in mind, Nick’s been pulling levers and throwing switches in the background to make it all happen. Part of the changes are that new members will automatically have their name inserted in their details on the top right of every post they make. It’ll show up there along with their joining date, location and post count. You can see it for yourself on this post.

The trouble is that the changes are only automatic for newly registered members, so we’re requesting that you should amend your profile accordingly.

This is simple to do.

Click this link (http://theartofsound.net/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile) which will take you to the ‘Edit your details’ section of your profile.
You’ll find a place to fill in your real first name in the ‘Additional Information’ section about halfway down the page.
While you’re here, it would be good to amend your location information too for the reasons that Nick explained here:

Location is useful to other members when it comes to suggesting useful local suppliers, or internationally specific issues such as local mains voltages, and the like. It's also useful to know if you are offering something for sale or wanted.

So, you can do that near the top of the page – a town and/or county/state/province is good. Please be more specific than a country.

You may not want to have your name mentioned twice in every post, so you could also remove it from your signature if you want to. There’s a link to do this in the sidebar over to the left - Settings and Options – Edit Signature.

All of this will take just a few moments, so why not do it now?
Thanks a lot
