Hello and salutations from the metro-east area (IL) 20 minutes east of St. Louis, MO. I found this site as I was searching out info about DACs and servers. I have various vintage and new mixed systems but plan to gather info on a new more up-to date setup with flacs and Squeezebox in the mix. I just need to get a good plan to persue. As much good gear comes out of the UK, this seems like a good place to start looking for new ideas about newer products. Looking forward to speaking with those here and rounding up some advice on the complex world (I'm finding) of high-resolution audio. Hopefully my gear will last until this new rig is up... or we'll be talking about vintage audio.:lol:

I've got pics in the gallery here, here's a rundown... Rig #1: Starts with Teac AD-600 CD/cassette (1000+ cassettes) and Sony PSLX250H TT (150+ LP's) into a Marantz 2215B (15 wpc), and an old Compac PC running XP for server with 300 CD's burned to flac (administrated and run by MediaMonkey). Those sources, along with an Apex AD-1110WM DVD and Emerson VCR (100+ VHS), are fed to a Studiomaster Diamond Pro 8-2 mixer. It provides input for a Crown XLS-802 (800 wpc@4 ohms per, Trace Elliot GP12SMX for pre-sub shape) which powers 2 Bag End II's w/ 2 JBL E-140 15"s each for subs, and a Crown D-75 (75 wpc@8 ohms per, DOD dual 15-band EQ for pre-top shape) powering a new set of EV ZX1 pro audio speakers with 8" woofers. The amps are crossed over with a DOD 823 and governed by a Yamaha GC2020B compressor/expander/limiter/gate. All in all, pretty nice. Rig #2: Starts with Sony BPC CD and cassette, Panasonic 8-track (probably 20 cartridges) and Dual 1225 as sources, fed to a Sansui 771 (45 wpc) and Pioneer reverb amp (18 wpc) to Cerwin Vega D-1 speakers with 8" woofers. Rig #3: Analog recording studio (Tascam Portastudio 488mkII) with digital (Line 6 GearBox, Casio CTK-593 keyboard) and analog input sources (Dean Metalman V and Z single-pickup basses, Squier 70's Vintage Modified P-Bass, Squier Telecaster and Squier Affinity Strat HSS), into a Peavey 16-channel mixer with spring reverb. Outboard effects include Alesis Midiverb II, MXR Omni, Lexicon PCM 41, Line 6 Pocket Pod, Boss Distortion and Super Phaser, Morley Power Wha Boost, BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer, and Rane GE27 27-band EQ's. To finish off the studio I use a nice pair of Fostex powered monitors. In spare are a pair of separates (Kenwood KT-413/KA-405) and a pair of Dahlton white van speakers given to me. As far as music goes, it's a mix of old British Invasion and American psychedelia circa 60's and 70's, prepunk, classic, and glam rock of the 70's, punk rock and New Wave of the 80's, and Oasis and the Black Crowes from the 90's. The 00's are a mystery to me and I'd like to pick up what I missed along the way. Favorites? Brian Wilson, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, Beatles, Big Star, Blossom Toes, David Bowie, Buffalo Springfield, Bob Dylan, Byrds, Doors, Small Faces, The Who, Jeff Beck/Yardbirds, Stones, Slade, 13th Floor Elevators, Grateful Dead, Quicksilver, JA, HP Lovecraft, Groundhogs, Spooky Tooth, Humble Pie, Iggy, Ramones, Sweet, Dictators, Kiss, New York Dolls, Adam and the Ants, The Jam/Weller, the list goes on and on. I've been hanging out at AudioKarma and AudioAsylum, and watching Stereophile and Audiogon, as well as Ebay and Craigslist. I shop pawn shops, thrifts, second-hand stores, and buy online from Musician's Friend among others. I've been getting heavily into my bass rig of late as well. I'm looking to get back into playing pro after a long layoff due to health issues. Hope this helps, I'm worn out... (hehe):lol:

Thanks Barry, I look forward to time spent here and in places where people carry on intelligent conversation, only I lag in some areas, admittedly... I have Escher and Dali prints in my space, common but classic. I've been looking at roughly 15-20 images from each for the last 30 years, never tire of them. Thanks for your well wishes, with any luck I'll be riding the horse that threw me soon enough...:lol:
