Hello there.

During a conversation in the pub with a friend at the weekend the subject of which are the best selling audio bits came up - it just did! :)

So, which are the best selling Interconnects, Amplifiers & Speakers in the UK.

A selection of makes (after 3 's) were mensioned, there were more though... lol

Chord (cables)
Black Rhodium
Exposure
Quad
Naim
Audiolab
Monitor Audio
Focal
blah de blah... you get the idea... So just wondering if anyone has any idea of what they think are best sellers and more importantly, what SHOULD be best sellers.

There is nothing in this, it's just one of those pub things.

Bosh!
Joe

Cambridge Audio I'd say, because Richer sounds sell it!

KEF and B&W always used to be much bigger than Monitor Audio, but this may not be the case these days with such a tiny market to compete in. I reckon that the Richer Sounds' portfolio has got to be up there in unit sales, as this chain seems busier, branch for branch, than many of the other chain branches and significantly busier than the "audio salons" out there.

Apart from B&O and Bose, who (used to) enjoy high sales, in the specialist market I think Naim are doing well, but there have been rumours of other firms either up for sale or having been sold or having foreign major shareholders' financial input. Linn seems now a smaller player, with fully dedicated dealers selling more high value custom-install sales I suspect, rather than purely stereo equipment per se.

Harbeth is another VERY carefully managed success story, the far eastern order books running at well over a year I understand. Their secret learned twenty years ago is not to pander to fleeting high demand, but to understand the main market inside out and gradually build and maintain a managed production of profitable but extremely good products.

I suspect Chord Co, Black Rhodium and QED (Armour group?) are doing ok, but people like Flashback sales and Mark Grant are making, I'm sure, greater margins per "popular priced" unit sold and selling directly to the end user. Ortofon have a huge DJ/pro market which I believe to be bigger than the domestic HiFi side, for example.

As for Exposure etc, I'm sure they're ticking along, but I don't believe they're big players. the budget end is fraught with fashion and fad, but Cyrus seem to have the WTF readers sewn up still, so may still be selling well.

IMO, the biggest/most popular sellers are whatever Audio T/Sevenoaks/What HiFi & TV are plugging this month....

Yeah, MA are good but I found they have a line that don't match up in performance, like the RS8 was outperformed by the RS6 and very nearly equalled by the even lower priced BR5 speakers... strange that.
