730ES tuner was £300
X77ES CD player was £1300

Multiply by 2.5 to get it in today's money. Would have been an expensive stack.

Note that 'ES' models intended for the UK did not have the wooden end cheeks. No idea why that was.

I also thought it was my CDP in there, which is an X-777ES, not an X-77ES, unless that was a typo?

In the pic you posted it's an X77ES. Only two '7's :)

Compare to the 777 it looks quite different - well, slightly different. 777 was more expensive I think?

There was both an X777ES as well as an X77ES. The 777s fetch more on the used market than do the 77s.

Not sure of the difference, except to assume the 777 was a later development.

Same era but 777 components were top of the range. Basic rule of ES is higher numbers better except single digit designations which are in their own little hierarchy, again higher is better.

I could certainly think of worst ways of spending £12k. You've also got to consider the cost of importing them from Japan, in crates, unless by some miracle you could find a pair nearer home.

Was at Cranage this year (First time as a punter lol) and listened to this in the Radford room with a pair of M100's and RFC Rubato standmounts. Still trying to figure out how those floorstanders produced the bass they were. Amazing stuff, and one of the best sounds of the show for me, just a great sound. Apogee Full Range. But as per my Duettas, almost completely rebuilt apart from the magnet arrays.

Never gonna happen. But it would be cool.
