I need to make a new armboard for my TW Acoustic Raven One. I can use the original to make a pattern from MDF, so that I can make more if needed. I have plenty of iroko lying around, salvaged from some broken gates.
1) what do people think about using iroko?
Alternatively I could buy some 20 mm thick delrin and cut new ones from that
Thanks
Charlie
That's a nice deck. Iroko will look out of place. So will Delrin IMHO.
They will both sound different.
TBH I would go with an OEM part i.e. what the deck was designed for.
That said, til you try both your DIY options you won't know which sound you prefer.
Turntables are weird and really sensitive to stuff like this.

Well AI managed this :interesting:gem :-
"For an Iroko (https://www.google.com/goto?url=CAESbQHuR6pNpPGeSFGyZrHoNf3bjysXLufE1crlw w8rT1yj2ZMMKlagDCkEBez2CWUgGuBpqr2vWYLrT48HrQpadeu QFaq5zABAWYlIxzJSycoaj3625BkYLf-Ayoeg0eRWqwKPqD89tpk5f8DdgGE=) wood acoustic/vibration build, the mechanical loss tangent (\(\tan \delta\)) typically ranges from 0.008 to 0.015 along the grain at audio frequencies."
Don't know if that helps.

IPE or Permali would be better. If you don't want the expense buy a cheap Bamboo chopping board and make something from that. Bamboo has a decent damping factor which better than Iroko. Perhaps you could do a comparison and shares your experiences with the forum??

What happened to the Platine Verdier? Interested to hear how the Raven One compares.

The PV is still in my mains system with 2 x Schroeders, Allaerts MC1B and Decca C4E
The Raven One is in my study system with the original Vivid 2 (Jelco 250) tonearm. Have bought an AT1010 and need to make a new armboard for it. I have lots of cartridges in ADC Magnesium headshells and would like to swap some of these around from time to time.
