At long last I am rehabilitating my hifi. I have approval so long as I tunnel the speaker cables under the carpet and minimise cable mess generally.

I’m dusting off my Papworth TVA10 - an el34 amp and early design by Tim de Paravicini. I’d like to try some tube rolling and whilst I love its grip on the bottom end, I find the treble is a bit too rolled off once it has warmed up. It has been running some edicron valves (maybe some Millard?) for the two ecc81 and four ecc83 it uses to feed the power tubes.

Does anyone have a matched pair of ecc81 they wouldn’t mind selling. I read that Siemens give good treble clarity without the full expense of vintage Telefunken?

And thank you for any recommendations or suggestions for the four ecc83s.

I’ve tried a Nuprime power amp which is wonderful for clarity and detail but can’t control the lower end as well. And having recently listened to a friend’s very expensive Wisdom system fed by a modern Linn streaming section, I was really impressed by what that hifi can do but reconciled to knowing I seem to prefer valves and high efficiency speakers or quad esl’s. I almost sold my leben preamp in a moment of financial instability a few years ago and very glad now that it didn’t go through!

Back to the valves - very grateful for any suggestions, I think I have two sets of sylvania power tubes but have never rolled the ‘small valves’, thank you.

A Monday morning bump - I was at a birthday yesterday and saw a message but is seems to have disappeared?

Mick - if you could message me or DM me, apologies I didn’t reply sooner.

Thanks everyone and thank you Mick for offering to send me some valves for a trial!

We can close this thread for now.
