Sunny here first thing but clouded over now. They put the heatwave back one day so only going to reach 20C now.

Was in Blackpool all day working, never got above 18C. But sun shone all day, so it was ok.
Not been outside all day but it's been mostly sunny. Got to 20C. Still giving out 25C for tomorrow.

After a very wet night, 15c and still raining
Heavy overcast but already 21C and barely a breeze. Feels like it's going to rain, they're only giving a 40 percent chance though.
25C forecast for the afternoon.
25c and sunny intervals - set to hit 31c around 3pm, No chance of rain according to the forecast.

Got in the supermarket good and early for once. Makes so much difference - everything still clean and fresh, no idiots blocking the isles or strolling around like it's Disneyland; just a few blokes on their own doing a quick run round with a basket. Too early for the beggars to yet be lounging around by the entrance.

Yeah, but we don't really get rain like that. It rains for a few hours, max, then the sun comes out. That's why it's called sunny wrexham, lol. I think we've got a bit of a micro-climate going on:)
When I was up in Glasgow it was different. It could rain for days on end there, with a continual gloom - just look at Robin's weather reports!

That is a big problem in London where my partner lives. What these unfortunate people don't understand is that we are a largely cashless society: most people pay by card or with their smartphone, not with cash. The best they could hope for would be for customers to go in and buy them something to eat or drink.
Referring to your previous observation, some of the 'customers' clogging up the aisles are the supermarket staff themselves, making up orders for courier deliveries. For me, an annoying habit of my own supermarket is them rearranging and moving the stock about; so you have to collar a member of staff to ask "Where do you now keep the ..... ?". :doh:

True but sometimes the reason they're homeless is from doing too much drink and drugs in the first place. But by the time you're begging outside the supermarket it's all over really, they're never going to make a comeback to the world.
Like a youth I knew from around. Stopped at the cash machine on the way home and he's begging there. Last time I'd seen him a couple of years back he was just starting a well paid job as a machine operator, just moved into a flat with his girlfriend, lovely girl with her head screwed on.
Found out what happened later. He started using the money to buy a bit of smack now and again, pretty soon he can't be arsed to go to work so got the sack. Had a bust up with his lady and smashed up her flat so she kicked him out. Doesn't take much to go from hero to zero, there but for the grace of God and all that.
One 'accessory' homeless buggers used to have would be a manky-looking dog with them, hoping that passers by would feel sorry for the dog and give the begger some money.
I heard a tale from a former work colleague who asked if he could help, and was told to go into the supermarket and buy something for the two of them. He did, handed over the tin of dog meat he had bought and walked away. Almost immediately he heard the sound of breaking glass as the begger threw the tin through the supermarket window!
The dog is usually a sign they're really rough sleeping since they won't let you have a dog in the shelter.
The purpose of the dog is to guard you while you sleep.

Yeah, with daytime BBC, it's pretty much constant. I sort of dip in and out of it, mostly when Anita's in. If she goes out the sound gets turned down and records/CDs go on :)

Another 'must watch' programme for me is The Repair Shop. I really admire the skill of the experts they use.

Not all auction houses look like Sotherby's or Christie's. It doesn't matter what they look like, their sole purpose is to get the highest bid for their customers.

I would say their sole purpose is to get as much money for themselves as possible. If you sell something through an auction, "auction fees" are deducted from the final price. If you buy something at auction, "auction fees" are added to what you pay. So they're making a profit at both ends. Bunch of bandits :(
When I told my mate and his missus this (both keen auction goers) they defended the auctioneers, saying you never see them driving Bentleys or similar, because there ain't that much money in the business. But I reckon that if you wanted to hide your wealth the last thing you would be doing is making your wealth conspicuous.
Everyone knows auction houses charge fees for both selling and buying. If you don't like the idea, sell or buy on eBay. You will still have to pay charges if selling, and risk buying a 'pig in a poke' if buying because you cannot examine the item closely, and if dissatisfied with the purchase be prepared to spend ages arguing with the seller.

Not all auction houses charge the seller. My last job one of the vehicle auction places we used only charged commission to the buyer. Only one out of about half a dozen, though.

My natural assumption would be the BBC would be a bit left of centre and woke, but FB always struck me as quite plain speaking so I wouldn't have put her quite there.

Anita's gone out for the day to Blackpool Sea Life Centre. Gone with her son and two granddaughters. Nobody asked me if I wanted to go, but then there wouldn't have been room in the car. She'd have been better off just taking me, I wouldn't have been constantly pestering for ice cream like I know they will.
But I will get to play unlimited tunes, so there's that I suppose.

She does, it's just my music she doesn't like... actually that's not quite true, the issue is that I'm deaf as a post, and she has hearing like a bat, so there are some disputes over acceptable volume. Things have got better with the new speakers, which sound much more convincing at modest levels.

It's just one of those little serrated kitchen knives, better off with a shank than that if you really wanted to stick someone. But you can never have enough knives.
Maybe it's the beginning of a trend and I'll find more useful stuff discarded in my forecourt. A bag full of money, something like that.

23.2C indoors now, I'm fine up to about 28C then it starts being a bit too warm, but I don't think it will get that warm inside just in one day.
Plus the humidity is forecast to be really low.
Low humidity makes a huge difference; it's the humidity that does me in the most.
But yes, deploy the fan - you'll be comfier that way.

I was at work as well; but being at an electronics research centre, there were enough of us interested to justify taking the day off, hiring a minibus and driving to Amiens in northern France to view, photograph and enjoy the experience. I took some good photographs of the totality, which I will try to find and somehow copy across to here. (It might have to be a digital copy made of a photographic print.)
You are right the eclipse will be partial; covering 92% of the sun, but sufficient for it to go noticeably darker and cooler, such that it fools the birdlife into thinking it's time for bed, and hence a 'dusk chorus'.
The sun will be low in the western sky, so try to find somewhere high to experience the eclipse.

The eclipse here was disappointing. Supposedly started at 18:05 with a maximum coverage of 92% at 19.12 and ending at 20:00.
The only thing that happened was it did get cooler, but not noticeably darker. The idea of using a collander to project the sun's disc onto a sheet of white card was a dismal failure, much to the disappointment of our neighbours. Still there was some avian activity, thinking it was time to roost, but that might have been wishful thinking.
I suggested they watch it all on the 9 or 10 o'clock news! :hmm:

As for them eclipse glasses - from essential to landfill at the speed of light.

Weather was up to the expected billing, got to 35c. 38c predicted tomorrow and Friday, then cools down to 29c with a chance of drizzle in the morning on Saturday. Hoping to do a few local things then, back to do the other part of Disney tomorrow and Paris central on Friday - both in the heat!

I've taken that Seine cruise, and it is as you say good value for money and, depending on the skill of the guide, very informative. It was long before the advent of PCs and the like, so there was no confusion between the letters at the end of of the first and second rows of the keyboard! :lol:

Blakey gets some bad press but he was only trying to run an efficient bus service. I mean, Stan was still living at home with his mother even though he was 57 when the series ended. Also he was only 11 years younger than his mother. That's never really explained.

Fortunately there was a a van selling cold drinks parked nearby, so one of us would toddle off to buy drinks, whilst the other would keep our place in the queue. Having a good book to read helped, and the temperature was nowhere near as hot as it is now.

No, Steve, not sciatica. I had a spinal tumour removed a few years back, which was the size of a golf ball, and with it they had to remove part of the cartilage around my spine, which means I have a weakness there and reduced mobility, and unfortunately it's permanent.

I think we're finally done with the hot weather now, set for a max of 23C today, then just the high teens for the foreseeable. I'm ok with that, got a full day of proper work today, not good when the heat's sapping your energy.

39c! We decided to postpone central Paris until tomorrow as it should be a more bearable 33c. Instead we’ve lazed around and kids have been in the pool. Going to go 10 pin bowling which will hopefully have air con before venturing out for dinner.
Although it is only slightly warmer than Disney most of the queues are under cover or air conditioned so it didn’t feel as bad yesterday or Wednesday. Longest ride we queued for was about an hour which wasn’t too bad, most no more than 20 mins.

As far as my body was concerned, yesterday was the hottest so far - regardless of the actual temperature. There were about a dozen 'specials of the day' chalked up: the king prawn salad being one of them.

Was 33c in Paris which was bearable, despite about 5 hours walking. Last day tomorrow before travelling back on Monday, a bit cooler still at 30c but still sunny.
Planning a relaxed day with a trip to the Armistice clearing near Compiègne in the morning and maybe a stroll around the town and more nice food, trying to make up for the exorbitant unpalatable gash I was fleeced for in two days at Disney.

Conker season will be upon us next month. I read that the long hot dry summer will bring them on sooner than normal, even more so than last year. Which means smaller conkers.
So Barry's record (33.7g iirc) looks like it'll stand for yet another year. Bettering my best last year (28g) will be an easier target for me, as long as I'm not plagued with "doubles" again, which are no use to anyone.

Well that's me all over, worrying about other folk :) Me and Grant had griped about this in the past, we blamed increased tarmac-ing over their gardens to make more parking spaces as being one of the reasons. It's not enough to put in more drains, it always ends up finding a bottleneck further down the hill.

All the new-build housing areas round here have one or more "mini reservoirs" amongst them, I think this is to reduce the shock of sudden heavy downpours overwhelming the drains. I suppose they must be effective, or they wouldn't keep doing them. Though they rarely have any water in them, just a lot of weeds and a "Danger-Deep Water" sign.
It's funny how ancient civilisations were masters of water-management but 21st century Britain struggles with even the basics of it.
Seems like there's always either too little or way too much and it's all in the wrong places at the wrong time. Then they try and bullshit that's it's all down to 'climate change.' No, it's down to incompetence and lining their pockets with the money instead of using it to improve the situation.

Simpler times though. Going from top of the hill to the valley, it would have been drinking water then bath water then bogs. And anyone who flouted the rules wouldn't last long.

We had biblical thunder storms last evening, but dry at the moment. Trying (probably in vain) to get a load of washing dry before the next predicted storms arrive. Also waiting for the washing machine repair person (musn't assume it's a man) - typical after a week away it has decided to only spin intermittently - takes about four goes for it to do it. I have a plan (not an A-Team style plan, a monthly payment that means they come and fix it for "free") and they must have been and replaced the motor brushes 5 times (which is what I reckon it will be again) - the machine must be 10 years old plus, and gets used at least every day, but it keeps soldiering on with the maintenance visits.
You'd be better off with an A Team style plan :)
What's a new washer these days, £250? What's the plan cost over ten years? Take it to the tip and buy a new one.
The only washers that are really bomb proof are Miele Professional (not their domestic models which are the same as all the other brands just with a higher price).
My old Hotpoint still going after 20 years and it was second hand so who know how old it really is. But only used once every two weeks.

We started out with a Hoover Keymatic (remember them?) They were close to bomb proof. Had a selection of plastic "cards" to insert depending on what programme you wanted.

I get it, it’s a fiver or so a month, so I’m paying for a new one every 5 years(ish), but I would estimate we have at least 2 call-outs a year, and it just is so much easier to log a call and get the bloke (it was a bloke) to fix it, or like they did with the fridge freezer last year when it was too bad, write it off and give me a new one. Anyway, it was the brushes, but he also said it could be the motor reaching end of life so he replaced the entire unit. It’s working fine now, and is about half the noise it was making before so that’s a win too.
We had more rain just as the washing was about dry, but not by the time I had got it in! Daughter also took the tent to a friends last night for a party sleepover and of course, for the first time in weeks it rained and the tent is now sodden in the boot of my car, so that’s another job for the weekend. Never rains but it pours. :D

Well I was brought up on Nescafe, so even diluted dog poo would be posh by comparison. Just cappuccino pods, but I like to think I'm being posh. Your coffee looks posher :) Even your jam butties look posh.

Robin, you should try Thomsons - they're in Giffnock, and they have a shop there, where you can taste before buying.
