Are there any users of the Advance Paris X-D500 CD transport here? I can't find any independant reviews anywhere online apart from a dealer review and wondered just how good the machine is.

The reviews are good, but IMO any transport worth its salt must use a 75 Ohm BNC connector for the coaxial output, not an inferior RCA socket.

As there's no point in restricting the choice of transport for no benefit.

Ideally yes. Using the correct connector for the S/PDIF connection probably adds an extra 50p to the cost, which in this case is about £1,000.

As long as you're getting uninterrupted data flow there's zero issue. I wouldn't let it reduce your choice of transports.

Agreed, but if they are going to specify a 75 Ohm impedance connection, I don't see why they can't do the job properly, considering good transports sell for four figures.

Agree - on the expensive ones there's no excuse really.

Steve, they've got an ex-dem one here with a couple hundred quid off.

Yes, iv'e seen this but i don't speak French. The ex-dem unit at Hifisound has been sold but they have tracked down another one for me. Watch this space. Thanks for the heads up though.

Just put the French to English auto translation on.

There's not much info - he says it has a toroidal transformer, high quality anti-vibration power supply, high quality transport mech, coax and optical outputs.

Jury's out. It's a bit fiddly to use and i don't like autoplay on disc insertion.

That's a shame, I think it looks really good. If it sounds good too maybe you'll get used to the quirks. Will we see/hear it at NEBO if it hasn't driven you mad by then?

Doubtful. I think i will stick with my TL-5 for now. Just a bit annoying having to use two RC's.
