Nowt here either, but it's forecasting rain all day. 17C right now - that's as warm as it's going to get today.
The pool has been in daily use this year.
It is actually warmer innthe pool than the outside air temperature, so it would be weird getting in it right now.

I think so, and we're still waiting for the rain. We don't get that much here, in the normal course of things, as quite often there's rain in the surrounding areas and none here.

We have been at a boot sale where the overcast sky was actually starting to break up with blue sky peeping through; even the sun shone. So where was the forecast rain? Well, just as we were leaving the boot sale at 10:00, it started to rain! Gentle at first but around 10:20, after we had got home there was a downpour. Seems to have eased up now, which to be fair, was forecast
That is all the rain we are going to get here. Not enough to make any improvement though.
We had some more rain overnight, but then it’s been sunny off and on and quite windy, so the tent is packed up dry - yay!
Taking a detour via Norwich which is on the way back and taking my dad out for lunch - his 84th birthday today, before heading home later this afternoon. Small chance of more rain this morning but then no more rain at all forecast in the next two weeks…

Well, this morning we had around 15 minutes of fairly steady rain but it's stopped now. Better than nothing but only just.
Had a bit of a shower here, not for long but enough to soak everything. Sun is out now.
Taking a detour via Norwich which is on the way back and taking my dad out for lunch - his 84th birthday today, before heading home later this afternoon.

Sorry to hear that, I know you and your dad were close.
Mine was in good form, enjoyed his liver and bacon and loved his cards! (The kids always make their own for close family). He’s still able to look after himself, but I am starting to think he will be needing more help soon.
Back home now and the sun is out between the clouds, a pleasant 22c.

My dad's passing came out of the blue, and was totally self-sufficient and in good health up until that point, but at that age they can go anytime. Does he still live in his own house?

Had another quite heavy shower here, just drizzling a bit now. Should be enough to restore the weeds back to health.
The weeds continued to grow despite the lack of rain, whereas the grass just turned to straw.
Our measly half hour or so of rain will have done little to help.

Yes, he does like his food, although he says he doesn't eat much these days but the plate of liver and bacon and bowl of Apple Crumble and custard he demolished would beg to disagree! He does still live on his own since we lost mum in late 2021, I think he would like to be nearer us, (it's about an hour away) and has given up driving but he's doing well.
Just been out for a walk with the dog - a lovely sunny morning, needed a fleece but can feel it warming up already, set to hit 25c and no chance of that rain...

Just under 3 but it's all uphill to varying degrees except the first and last few hundred yards. One bit is a very steep climb.

It's wonderful. Only downside was going from having lots of money to no money - at least for another couple of years. But I can live with that.

I got a redundancy payment from them but I've left the pension to run. I got another job after leaving there and did another 3 years or thereabouts.

Same ol', same ol' - hazy and sticky hot. Not pleasant sitting out unless you are on the coast or somewhere with a breeze.
No better here on the coast guv'nor. Close and sweaty and even the breeze has been a bit too warm. reminds me of the Beatles' song 'Rain' as neither rain nor sun suits us much.
26°C here in close & sweaty Wrexham. Still nice enough to enjoy lunch al fresco:)

Inside right now just about to hit 23C though so not much cooler than your place today anyway.

Yeah, when it's boiling outside (30C+) I'd much prefer it a lot cooler in the house. We close all the curtains and sit in front of a fan with very little clothing on (lol). That makes a notable difference:)

Only have electric heaters. But it's fine as long as it's over 4C outside.
No worries... You can always put three pairs of tights on under yer joggers!:D

The secret to keeping the house reasonably cool in hot weather is:
At night time, when you go to bed, open all the windows upstairs to let the accumulated hot air that has risen upstairs out.
In the morning, before it gets too hot, close and draw the curtains on the sunny side of the house, to prevent the rooms from getting too hot.
Not a complete panacea, but it helps.

That's pretty much what we do, (apart from the windows upstairs bit, we live in a bungalow) :doh: Still uncomfortably warm indoors, but it would be so much worse if we kept the blinds and curtains open, as the lounge/diner is L-shaped, with large windows on the east and south aspects.

Yes, if you do those things it's amazing how much cooler the house is compared to outdoors, giving some much needed respite from the heat. The worst is trying to get to sleep at night:rolleyes:

for about 9 months lived in a company house with 3 other blokes, I had the attic room. Great room but in the summer (of course it had to be a warm summer while I lived there) it was over 30C constantly.
There was a big skylight which I used to leave wide open all day while I was at work. Made no difference. I did get used to it though, never had a problem sleeping although any form of bedding was unnecessary.
On the plus side in the evenings you could climb through the skylight and sit outside on the roof with a can and some music on.
You must have a high tolerance to heat and not sweat very much, mate. Trying getting to sleep in a pool of your own sweat, hair wet, pillow soaking, just lying there dripping - not nice:(
We can't even leave any windows open or the cats get out.

As long as it's not humid as well as hot I'm usually fine. Being skinny helps of course.
If it was me I'd leave a window open just let the cats come and go. They know where they live and how to get back.

Consequently, it's why I don't find it 'chilly' when it's 22C outside, and can go about in a t-shirt and shorts, quite comfortably, well into October - swings and roundabouts, eh?:)

Or get some pieces of mesh which can easily be attached/detached over the window openings. And if your bedroom is upstairs be sure to keep your door closed in the daytime, so heat coming up the stairs doesn't get into your room. Worth a try if you don't already do that.
Not an easy thing to do over our old windows, Steve, certainly for it to be secure. They only open out so much. Good tip about the door - problem is two of the cats like to sleep in our upstairs bedroom, so need to be free to get their food/go to the toilet, etc:)

You could always get a cat flap fitted into your bedroom door - believe me I've seen crazier stuff done for cats.
I'll tell you about a customer of mine - a receptionist at a dental practice, and outwardly appears pretty normal. But her love for cats is firmly in the 'crazy cat lady' territory. Almost everything in her house and garden has a cat theme, from garden ornaments and door knocker to wall clocks and lamp shades.
I first met her to change the double glazing in the french doors, one of her cats was repeatedly pissing against it through stressing out over a visiting neighbour cat. The urine had ruined the seals so both units were "failed". Chaging them in the height of summer was fun, stunk to high heaven.
While there I noticed a cat flap in the wall of the conservatory, which led out to a wire mesh tunnel. Which ran round the perimeter of the garden to another cat flap in the garage wall. Customer proudly informed me that the garage contained a sofa and a flat screen telly for the cats' relaxation.
You'd have to try hard to beat that level of crazy :) But this is the kind of thing that makes this country great.

Needless to say that lasted about a month then i had a cat door put in. He was happier with that too. I still had to get up about 0500 to feed him when he came in from his dawn patrol though. Ginger cats don't take no for an answer.

Yeah they will fit in with a routine if it is constant. Mine did not like me going out to work until he got used to the idea that I'd always be back about the same time. Somehow cats can tell the time even without watches or smartphones lol.
I can't get another cat right now for various reasons but maybe in a few years time.

Well my cat didn't learn about crapping in the flower beds from me, I don't care what the neighbours say :nono:
But I am definitely her favourite, because I don't move very much and when I do I move slowly. She likes that. And wherever I go in the garden she follows me, like a clingy toddler.
Hit 35c today, walking out of the air conditioned office into the car park was like when you get off the plane in Greece or Spain and the heat just smacks you. 450 mile round trip tomorrow to see a client, at least the car has air conditioning too! Although tomorrow not so hot anyway, and only 24c for the weekend.

Never had that in Spain or Greece must have gone at the wrong time of year. Only in the Caribbean. First time went to St Kitts and the airport there looks a lot like the airfield they have to capture in 'The Wild Geese' - so even though you arrive on a Boeing 777 you have to walk down steps onto the apron like it was 1956.
I thought at first that the heat was just coming off the engines. But no.
The first time I experienced something like that was flying out to Beijing, China. Had to change planes in (I think) Dubai, and walking out of the plane and down the steps, it was just like walking into a hot cushion. When we landed at Beijing, we were greeted with freezing sleet and snow!
The opposite occurred when returning from Madagascar via Moscow. Left Madagascar at around 30C, only to arrive in Moscow where it was only a few degrees above zero.

Had that going from Rome to Manchester ( 25C in Rome and 1C in Manchester - and raining, ofc).
19C and cloudy. Not expected to be as hot as yesterday: 25C, so a little more manageable.
Dull and spitting here, might get some rain.

We had a bit of rain during the night, but not much. Underneath the cars is dry, that's how I can tell if it's rain or wet rain. Sun trying to come out now, and 16C, but not forecast to get above 19C.

Aww... that's cute. What's her name? My black and white one's like that with me.
We don't have any neighbours, so the only crapping that gets done is in a small area at the back of our garden, otherwise they use their litter trays. Ours don't tend to wander much. The garden, back and front, is big enough to keep them happy:)

1200 already, I really should try to get something accomplished today.

Really sunny here, had to go out to the Lidl at 0800 as run out of tea. What a nightmare.
Felt a bit like the first morning on holiday in a foreign country where, due to the time difference, you're awake long before they start serving breakfast.
only going to manage a poxy 19C today even with the sunshine. Weekend is back to proper temperatures though.
Just been out with the dog and it’s lovely in the sunshine but a bit chilly in the shade - 19c now, set to get to 23c which is just about perfect for me.
