Can anyone tell me why my IP has been banned?

Having to resort to a VPN in order to post this.

I've been banned all day today, I tired a different UK IP address with a VPN, still banned. I'm now using a VPN but with an IP address in the USA and it's finally let me in.

I've had the below message all day today when trying to view the website logged out and when I try to log in, I can't, same message.

Nothing I am aware that we have done to make this happen…. (Working ok for me today). Will have to see what can be done- apologies.

Malcolm, do you use Virgin Media as your Internet provider?

I had issues recently but they stopped and everything has been okay until today, the previous time I got a different message. I can't work out why it's happening, but I see you are also in Wales, which is a common factor?

Thanks Alex, I thought it was a glitch that had gone away, but today it's the actual forum that banned my IP, previously it was the server.

Okay thanks.

A few weeks ago I was getting banned almost daily, then it stopped. I thought it might be Virgin as they were dynamically changing my IP address, but it's been fine until today. I thought it might have something to do with not being a supporter, but I see you are and you got banned.

Yeah, same thing happened to me yesterday. My first thought was have I offended someone :(... Found a way round it by going into my browsing history. Today it's all good again.

I was banned as well. I usually start the day by reporting on the weather here, but yesterday, when I tried to log in, all I got was an announcement that Administration had banned my IP (). Sent a message to Nick for help. No matter which of my three computers I tried the ban lasted all day.

Anyway we seem to be all up and running, so thanks to Rob for sorting the problem.

Being a complete humpty when it comes to these things, can anyone explain what happened yesterday, and did it affect everyone?

No idea what caused it but was banned most of the day

There’s funny stuff afoot generally. I keep getting Surfshark pop ups blocking pages like this for drugs content. False positives, I assume:)

My ip was banned yesterday. It coincided with me clearing the 'history' on my computer. I haven't done that for a few years so thought it about time but it gave me a world of pain. Had to log in to practically every site on the computer, some easier than others and still have a couple I can't get into. AOS was one of those which gave me trouble with the " ip banned" thing. I thought it was just me but now learn that coincidentally, the forum was misbehaving. Who knew ?

Definitely not your fault David, my browser automatically clears all the cookies every time I close it, but I still got banned.

There was a technical reason why it happened, but you'll all fall asleep if I try to explain it :)

No - please try to explain what happened Tim. I for one need to know.

Cheers

I got on ok during the day.
Obviously I was not as naughty as you lot, as I did not get banned.

If you contact Alex or Rob they can expand further Barry, but my understanding is it was caused by an anomaly in the forum IP settings.

Even I was banned chaps - not good for an admin. :D

There was a wildcard IP address in the ban section on the admin panel. I cleared it the other day completely so there shouldn't be any problems now.

No idea what that means but all is now OK. Thank you.

I assume an admin can still get into the admin panel even if he's banned or we'd be in big trouble [emoji23]

You'll be safe over there - no one would dare ban posts coming from France, there'd be burning lorries blocking the main roads and everything :ner:

My laptop struggled with "timeout" issues yesterday, probably not related though.

With a little work, yes. :D
