View Full Version : Which band/artist do you have the most albums of?
Tim reckons he has 35 Marillion albums not sure anyone can beat that but let's see.
I have a lot of Tull and ZZ Top, have to count up tomorrow but I know it's nowhere near 35.
Never been much of a completist with albums, I think I have all the Steely Dan studio stuff but not all the live albums, but they were never really a live act type of band anyway.
I suppose if you're not into prolific, long running bands then it's hard to rack up the numbers.
Anyway, what have you got the most of?
That's not all of them either Martin, they have released a number of specials through their own label Racket Records that I've missed out on - their full catalogue is ridiculous if you include all their live recordings.

11 ZZ Top Albums, that's the best I can do.
I do actually think it's maybe a bit too large now (my collection). That's where my money has gone, not on gear but albums and live shows. I'm going to thin it down over the coming months and prune out the albums I rarely play.

Totally Steve, I've never professed to being an audiophile, although my family think I am, but they have nothing other than Bluetooth speakers and phones.
I just love music and to enjoy it you do need to reach a certain level equipment wise, but I've always balanced buying music and going to shows against buying gear. It works for me, but I think I'm in the minority on audio forums - a bit of a cheeky imposter :eyebrows:

Just had a quick count, and I have 13 Zappa albums and 25 Bowie albums. I thought there were more than that.
Oh and 16 Madonna albums (:o oops did I just say that out loud?) Actually I think completism got a hold of me there, only two of those get any play :scratch:
A quick look through my media server... I think Bob Dylan will be my top (33) - I bet most of them have only ever been played once, maybe some not at all! I kind of thought I should own his albums...

There are however a lot of bands where I have all their albums, and would have bought more if they made them!

This is an interesting, if perhaps embarrassing thread. Embarrassing because it shows how many unnecessary versions of the same record many of us have here.
But here goes; setting the minimum to 10 recordings in the pop, rock and folk genre, we have:

I used to have a tape with 'Trinity Sessions' on one side and 'Caution Horses' on the other. The perfect cure for insomnia.
If we count duplicates - I don't think we should - I've got a lot more of everyone since I've bought a lot of albums on CD that I already had on vinyl.

As for duplicating the same album . . . yup, that's nuts, who needs 9 mastering's of Dark Side of the Moon - that was a dumb obsession of mine at the time and quite a costly one. If you sat me down now I 'might' be able to pick 2 out as being different, but are they actually better than the others? Totally dumb :doh:

True, they will be different masters so not technically the same recording. Likewise with mono versions.
I suppose a fanatical Beatles fan would win this easily since not only are there shedloads of different records, there's dozens of versions of a lot of them too.

I probably have about 400 records and 200 odd CDs.
They tend to span artists, with any particular artist I don't have that many. The Cure is probably the highest count I would guess.
These days I can't listen to The Cure's later stuff. For some reason it makes me cringe. But the first few albums? Still love them.

Although I do have a couple of duplicates, plus a few that I have remastered versions, I do have 4 or 5 copies of ‘What’s going on’. The recent Kevin Grey remaster is the best sounding.

Wow! :eek: There were 12 or 13 official studio albums plus several live recordings made by the BBC. But to amass so many titles you would have include all US releases as well as many compilation albums.

Yup, I just have her ST first album, I rarely play it but say what you like about Taylor Swift, she's a talented songwriter. To start writing songs at 11 and release your first album as a 14 yo is none too shabby and there are some great songs on there.
Don't care so much for her music after that one, but I respect her as an artist.

Ok, while we're on our guilty secrets, I'll say that Toxic is one of my favourite pop songs by anyone, ever, and if she did an album full of songs that good, I'd buy it. Judging by the number of artists who've covered this song, folk who you might think wouldn't touch Britney songs with a bargepole, I'm not alone.

I do get some stick from Anita and her kids for knowing more about girl groups and girly pop than a 68 year-old bloke should, but I'm past caring!
'Toxic' is a good song and good video too IIRC it's the one where she's an air hostess?
Weren't all her songs written by some fat middle age bloke from Sweden though? Does take the shine off a bit.

I read that Cathy Dennis co-wrote Toxic, so that helps. She was a bit of a babe in her time :)
