Just wondering if anyone has been queueing today?

We were in town this morning, to visit the Post Office, and had a wander into our one and only record shop, apparently they had been doing brisk business, I had a quick look at the remaining stock, I rarely buy anything from the them as they are usually overpriced and I’m not really their target market, the Rory Gallagher remaster was available at £45, overpriced by at least £10, the Springsteen and Pink Floyd were both gone , just for fun asked what the Springsteen price was £110, £25 to £30 overpriced, left empty handed.

I went a few years back as there was a CD I was interested in (forget what). Asked the bloke if they had got any of the CDs in and he says 'CD? No!' with disgust. Muppet. So not bothered since.

A bought a couple of Steely Dan and Talking Heads a few years ago but that’s been it, would have bought the Curtis Mayfield last year but sold out everywhere .

I've never had the slightest interest in Record Shop Days, for the simple reason I am not interested in overpriced 'special edition' vinyl pressed on anything that is not black.

It's not all coloured vinyl you know? Plus there's cd and even cassette releases.

Yes, it was a slight exaggeration, but I do detest coloured vinyl and all of my LPs are black.

My RSD purchases are all black vinyl.

TBH so many releases are limited now that it seems the rule rather than the exception. A lot of normal black vinyl releases are in relatively small runs.

Out of curiosity I've just typed 'limited' into eBay UK for category 'vinyl records' and it comes up with '180,000+' entries.

I used to go years ago when I was younger but I'm afraid RSD lost it's appeal when it started to become massively over priced, the fun went years ago. I'm happy to wait for several years and see what's left over in the reduced RSD rack at my local supplier, sometimes I drop lucky.

As i said in the first post, I did have a look in our local record shop but nothing for me, I bought the Steely Dan a couple of days later online form one of the Glasgow stores, Strip Joint records, which made the postman smile when he delivered it.

It's crazy in Cardiff, people line up all night outside Spillers Records (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spillers_Records) (allegedly the oldest record shop in the world!). I used to go to Square Records in Wimborne, when I lived in Dorset, but locally now you need to be prepared for a very long wait to get in the door, so I don't bother anymore. Square Records used to bring bacon rolls and coffee out for people if they were there all night and have artists play in the store. Used to love that as the numbers were manageable, Cardiff is nuts in comparison.

I don't buy records that often these days, normally direct from the artist at shows. I like putting pound notes in their hand and getting it signed.

I have never queued for RSD and never will, most of purchases are online.

At the moment I have bought a few records from a place in Glasgow called “ Last Night From Glasgow “, who are trying to support new bands, an interesting business model.

We have Wah Wah records in Wakefield, it's a really good venue and I go every month and buy something. I think it must be 8 years since I did my last RSD there.

I did queue once in Stroud. Phoned the guy up a few days before and asked if he had copies of the 2 Steely Dan LPs (2 v Nature and Everything Must Go) that I wanted - he said he'd ordered 2 copies of each and didn't expect them to sell out fast. When I got there early, there was already a queue down the street and when they opened they were only letting people in as someone exited. I did get the 2 I wanted, but 1 of the 4 had gone and the guy behind me bought the last 2 v Nature.

It wasn't really an experience that I'd rush to repeat.
