Musical Fidelity x-t100 freebie

Hi all, not posted here for a while, being quite happy with my Sugden A21i/Wharfedale Linton set up (not to mention my increased appetite for headphone listening via the HD600/Slee).
A customer gave me this amp with its power supply today, understand its a tube solid/state hybrid, haven't plugged it in yet, wonder what it will sound like.

OK, just plugged it in, all works great, sounds ok too for now, of course extended listening is essential for proper assessment.

Yes, it uses two ECC88 valves in the preamp section, with a solid state power amplifier (50W into 8Ohm, 80W into 4Ohm). It gets good reviews, describing the sound as "warm and punchy".

Thanks Barry, will listen to it for a days before I pass judgement, first impressions are that it's a tad sharper than the Suggie, and doesn't give as much insight.

I wouldn't expect the MF to sound better than your Suggie, just different. Though the extra power might be appreciated by the Lintons, with a more 'controlled' bass.

Or you could just sell it on - it does have some value.

Seems better than the Suggie at high volume, but I can't play at high volume so not much good to me, I do think the Suggie is better for lower listening levels.

Yeh was a nice guy, this amp is sounding ok, I forget how my Suggie sounded now, it's hard to remember, even though I've only had this one in for 2 days. Good thing is it never gets hot either, don't like that about the Suggie.

Maybe make the MF your summer amp, and your Suggie can be your winter warmer :) In any case, having a 'back up' amp is a good thing, in case one needs to go in for a repair.
