Suppose it's time for the new thread.

Sun went in after an hour and now it's dull with a cold wind.

Just back from dog walk, grey and chilly with occasional drizzle. Hello spring! (I’m sticking with the astrological version !)

I'd previously described it as astrological, but my mistake, it's actually astronomical  If I'd been a Virgo I'd probably have got it right first time. Crap weather for March indeed.

The weather forecast is becoming increasing unreliable when it comes to the amount of rain expected. I've given up!

For what it's worth, it's dull, overcast and spitting with rain.

Same! Typical for a Monday after a dismal weekend, when I will be sat indoors all day!

Blue sky and sunny now, shame it could not be earlier when I was out on my walk.

Did notice the daffs that had not bloomed on Friday now all have, also some blossom on the trees has come out over the weekend (although only on one type of tree).

Drizzly miserable in Blackpool all day, 9C maximum. Blackpool tower shrouded in cloud. Could be worse though, someone staying at a guest house across the road was brought out in a body bag, with the police in attendance.

Yesterday was a lovely warm and sunny day from around 8am.

According to the BBC, today is supposed to be better but reality is, it's quite cold and with a dense, dark mist blocking out any hint of Sun.

I washed our car today (well I drove it to a place where Romanians are happy to wash it for me for 8 quid). They do a much better job than I could as they have all the right equipment and cleaning products, and as they are doing it every day they have the experience too.

Also, sitting in the car while they get on with it (taking about 20 minutes), gives me a nice feeling of being pampered, like being at the barbers, but better really as I don't ever feel pressured to tell the car wash guys if I'm going anywhere nice for my holidays.

There is a car washing facility at my local filling station (my Last Chance Texaco), but I have never availed myself of their services. It takes me about half an hour to do the job, and I think I do a much thorough and better job than tĥey would. I do the exterior and my partner cleans the interior

Well that's not so bad, that you don't have to do all of it :)

We have a young lad come do our valeting, he's coming round this week. He only started doing it last year, so he's only done it once and we got it really cheap. He spent about 3 hours on it and chargeed £30, I don't know how he can get by being that cheap. Does a really thorough job.

He's the son of our gardener (wow, going through this and my previous post one would think we're bone idle! And I suppose we are a bit, but then I'm providing a bit of work for others, albeit jobs I don't wamt.

3 hours to valet a car?!! What does he do? It only takes 15 minutes to brush and hover the carpets and seats, and maybe dust the instrument cluster. If the intside of the windows need cleaning, then that might add another 15 minutes; so a half hour in total.

Talking of gardening, I need to cut the grass (it's not good enough to call it a lawn). At the moment we have a cloudless blue sky with sunshine, so I'll see if it is dry enough to do it now.

Depends how bad it's got I suppose

I valeted my mother's car before I sold it, just doing the outside took 3 hours it was that bad. About another hour for the inside. I don't think it had been washed in about 3 years.

When we used to buy cars at the auction and flip them 8 hours of valeting wasn't unusual. I spend a whole day once just cleaning a back seat. From a distance it looked like black fabric but it was actually meant to be a pastel colour. Got it clean, it was a bit faded though.

But with some T cut and blackener for the plastic and rubber you could get a fifteen year old Escort back to looking showroom, almost.

If you're not using a toothbrush, you're not doing it properly ;)

I think he gave an unnecessary amount of attention to detail, certainly the result was very nice. I've no idea why it took him so long, maybe he spent a lot of the time gawping at his smartphone, he's only 19.

Pretty warm in Blackpool today, about 15C. But then come 3pm it started chucking it down.

Yeah started doing that now there's a chippy really close by again.

Previously you had to walk into the town which isn't far but it's about three hundred yards further than the 'can I be arsed?' distance.

Barry

What a lazy bunch you are. I have never been a follower of " fish on a Friday", I eat what I want when I want, and for the simple reason I don't believe in the the religious concept of penance.

Pigmy Pony
06-03-2026, 21:55
I'm not a follower of "fish on a Friday" either - I'm just as likely to have a meat pie or a steak pudding. And the idea of chippy tea doesn't come out of laziness, as whatever I eat I won't have made it myself. Anita is so much better at cooking than me, and I've no plans to change that.

Anyway, no chippy tea tonight, I had leftovers of yesterday's "Gousto" meal - it was some South American dish that was like a curry but not. Anita was out so I had to "prepare" it myself. Three and a half minutes in the microwave.

Just 3C right now, and a bit foggy too. Tomorrow looking dry but a bit chilly.

Actually I had fried chicken :)

At school it was always fish and chips on a Friday.

My mother refused to let me eat a beef pot noodle on a Good Friday, tried to explain to her it was soya but she'd never heard of soya. Thought I was making it up.

We got proper fog where I lived out in the bushes when I was at university. You could see it coming through the gaps in the window frames like smoke. Visibility would be about 10 feet. When you opened the front door it would billow in.

Never seen the like before or since except in horror films.

They were concrete and breeze-block shacks knocked up for ten bob just to stick students in, I don't think they were awarded the Kite Mark.

Gusty in the night and through the day so far. Twigs and small branches all over the place. Fields look like the sea, with grass being driven in waves by the wind. As long as it's not causing damage or danger it's the sort of weather that makes you feel wonderfully alive when you're walking in the countryside.

As it was dry, I thought I'd give the patio a dose of Patio Magic to clean off the algae. It has to be on for a couple of days and not get wet or it will wash off. Just as I was finishing off I had something dropping on my head, thought it was rain but it was bloody Hailstones. Couldn't make it up but fortunately it only lasted a couple of minutes.:lolsign:

Could have been worse, could have been from a passing flock of geese. They're on the move this time of year :)

Been sunny all day here, but the air is pretty cold. Ok if you can stay in the sun. For me a more reliable sign of spring is me getting dragged to garden centres, where we chucked £40 on some flowers for the borders. Not big money I suppose, certainly less than all the patio furniture Mrs. P had us testing for comfort and practicality.

Went round the Sainsburys earlier, that cold wind is still going strong.

Wednesday looks good, full-fat sunny and 16C with almost no wind at all. But that seems a long way off.

It was for me, though the t shirt was black, which absorbs the sun's heat better. And the thermometer in the lounge, which has shown 18-19C all winter, was 20.5C this afternoon with no heating on. That's what I like to see :)

A lovely day for us too, was in the office most of it but did get a 30 minute walk at lunchtime which was lovely. Office is not far from West Suffolk College (6th form) and lots of the lads were in T-shirts and shorts, and girls in vest tops - it's warm, but not that warm!

Sorry to hear of your misadventure Dave. The only proper way to lean on a gate is to wear a cloth cap and suck on a straw at same time. ;)

For my part I cut the grass. It was such a nice day I was almost moved to remove my tie.

There was that time a couple of years ago, when I took the wrong road back to your house and we ended up driving through Warrington. That level of excitement should hold us for a while. But as if that wasn't enough there was also that bake off in Dudley, where we ducked out to a nearby pub for an hour, and when we got back everyone had gone home...excitement is overrated I'd say.

Went round the Sainsbury. Try to avoid it on a Saturday since you get all the knobs wandering around like it's Disneyworld, blocking the aisles like they're the only people in there, and the couples spending ten minutes stood in front of the one shelf you want to get to, debating their purchase in detail.

One bloke stood next to me at the chicken section was reciting all the product titles out loud. Don't make eye contact and move away fast.

Anyway, not a cloud in the sky. There's barely a breeze but there is still a chill to it when it does pick up a bit.

Sundays at our Sainsbury's is just as busy. What annoys me is the aisles are wide enough for two trolleys, yet you get folks sropping with their trolleys abreast just to have a natter!

Almost as bad are those who have unloaded their shopping on the conveyor belt at the checkout, then realise they have forgotten something and keep you waiting whilst they go back to pick it up.

No - it was a woolen scarf. You might not believe it but I don't own a cravat, and have never worn one.

When on my travels I have often worn a silk scarf around my neck: either to help with sweat, or to cover my nose and mouth when in dusty desert conditions.
