View Full Version : SME 3009 part wanted
You may recall that I bought a SME 3009 a while ago as a box of bits. I knew there were parts missing when I bought it. I have rebuilt it, making the missing parts and now it nearly works. I call it my "FrankenSME".
One of the parts I had to make was the small plate that clips onto the arm near the bearings for the arm lifter button to push against.
This is somewhat unsuccessful because it is a bit loose and when lifting or lowering the arm it forces the arm outwards so the stylus misses the record (horrible noises result).
Does anyone have one of these clips sitting in a "Round Tuit" box?
Thanks. Majex45
I think it will be difficult to find someone with a spare SME arm lift platform, but if you can justify the cost there is one for sale on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144992458739?_skw=SME&itmmeta=01KHBW6XQ4AN5XSHEVE0DA8FCN&hash=item21c23957f3:g:o8UAAOSw3-xdETYU&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA4DKQclQvzFwZQpmMrsO4LupDu%2Bm D8fTDlQ9T%2F8pjocIkKjr%2Ba2t2PwH6V2mx6F%2FO8X5Cv%2 FSW9Q5l%2BBZp0%2Fe7KgSz0gdb7naNtdWtBoZf28JNrA6qTEx HpYphnQFHhNxt3hoXcg%2F9Sm6wMN5dEMCYWq9uJFf8Q7wZLPX SYR3Je3hqKDRJLWHMGcAWc1vJkfMLreZhtqWtd2lZftdC3Jsu4 UzV8e2VUSQlcnjLPeeKKy%2Bs83qpkOuS309INHPFh%2BOcnRj cNBxLTO1bJWRmvtsphp7muwl%2F21khLiR3kUA6V36G%7Ctkp% 3ABk9SR97bm_yKZw.

Thank you for your help unfortunately, that is rather beyond the budget I had in mind. It is not even a "make an offer". Do the originals have the checkering on the underside? I can try that with my home made one, it may help.
Yes, I thought that would be your response - spare parts for SME arms are, IMO, ridiculously priced. The "checkering" on the underside is new to me, I haven't seen that before. My arm (a 3009 Series II) has a textured paper(?) layer stuck on the underside of the arm lift platform.
With your arm, when you lift the arm does the rubber tip of the lift mechanism engage with the horizontal part of the platform, or does it engage with the end, which is at an angle? If so, you will need to re-orientate the arm lift mechanism. Either that, or tighten up the platform fitting to the arm.
Hi Barry,
Thanks for the help.
When the arm is taken out of the holding clip the rubber tip is just to the left (looking from above) of the arm.
The platform rotates a little so the platform is now a slope upwards to the left. I have tried bending it but the clip is too loose. But being ali, when you try to reclip it onto the arm tube it takes a "set" and does not spring back.
I think a stainless (or spring steel) one is needed but I don't have the necessary tools to work this.
