Fascinating stuff Marco. Dontcha just love the look of that Livingstone binaural arm?

However, despite the use of two separate record grooves and their playback using two 'mono' cartridges, what Livingstone were doing was no different to what is done nowadays. Today, both channels modulate the side walls of the record groove, and being orthogonal (at right angles to one another), allow the stereo cartridge to read them separately. The only advantage the Cook method has is better inter-channel crosstalk.

Love the provision of the channel reverse switch allowing you to put the 'strings on the left'. Why not swap the input leads? Or did Cook not have convention as to which of the two sets of grooves were used left and right?

And to think, I thought it was only the British that came up with these 'Micky Mouse' ideas!

Great stuff - I can see it was the speakers that attracted you most though Marco !

The above ad was in the January-February 1954 issue of High Fidelity magazine.
The speakers were a pair of Concert Grands having a total of eight 12” woofers.

That Livingstone arm makes my Dynavector look straightforward. I've never seen any of these binaural recordings with double tracks, fascinating stuff.
