Same here. Not a good day to be going into town, but that's what we're doing. Anita will be going round a few stores of no interest to me, while I mooch round some other places to pass the time (Sports Direct for a warm jacket then Action Records for who knows what).
Then we'll meet up for a brew and a bite. If we have any money left.

Yep, rain and more rain with 40+ MPH wind to really make it feel unpleasant. Tomorrow and Wednesday look ok, mild sunny and dry, before we go back to rain.

Similar here. From tomorrow and for the next two weeks at least, lows of 6C, highs of 10C, with some rain every day. At least there shouldn't be any frost or ice.

A break in the rain this morning, it won't last. Off up to sunny Fleetwood now, there's an indoor car boot there which we've never been to. Indoor ones are usually rubbish, but then outdoor ones are too these days, and it gets us out of the house for a bit.

A cloudy 8c this morning so far
Went round the Sainsbury as had nothing in for second breakfast.
Needless to say started spitting half way there. When I came out it was raining properly - that fine stuff that soaks you through. Really miserable day, I don't think we will get to full daylight.
This morning stayed dry long enough for a dog walk but been persisting it down non stop since about midday. Virtually dark now, but still very mild at 13c.

Well there was nothing sunny about sunny Fleetwood. And that was probably the worst car boot sale I've ever been to. The only good thing I can say about it was that it was shelter from the rain. And it was just a chaotic collection of crap, like the inside of a hoarder's house.
There was one bloke selling vinyl - I made the mistake of examining a Sade record (it looked like a skip rescue), and the man wouldn't leave me alone ("Where have you come from? Chorley? I used to live in Manchester"). So then he listed all the addresses he'd lived at in Manc before moving to Fleetwood 18 years ago.
There must have been about a dozen buyers there, all of whom were on first name terms with the sellers.
So on to Freeport Outlet village. Got a proper bargain there, a super warm jacket reduced from £99 to £39, which Anita chipped down to 18 quid because there was an inch of loose stitching. She drives a hard bargain my missus :)

She is a hard bargainer, and if someone turns down her offer (sad to say it is quite often for racial reasons) she will get me to go and make the same offer, or even lower, and the seller will always accept my offer!
Agree with you regarding those selling vinyl - it's a cartel: they all know one another, and if not actually selling or talking they are sat reading record buyers' price guides. I don't bother to look anymore, unless it is a private seller.

That is just awful, that sort of nonsense should be firmly in the past. I'd be tempted to offer them the full asking price, then at the last minute tell him you've changed your mind as he is a racist shithead.

It never quite managed it here despite trying. There's patches of blue sky, they just don't coincide with where the sun is at.
I've noticed this before where even if there is only one cloud in the sky it still manages to find its way to a place where it blocks the sun.

You'll find this during the winter months - because the sun is relatively low in the sky and hitting the earth at such an acute angle there's more chance of cloud getting in the way. All things considered though, not bad for December.
I've just completed my three-times-a-week walk, so I can enjoy a well-earned chill with some tunes :)
Sun is finally out! Of course it starts getting dark in about an hour's time but better late than never.
It has just been a dull miserable-looking day today. No rain, no sunshine, no wind, no rain, no snow - nothing at all!
3C with a clear sky. It's going to be cold today - fortunately I don't have to go out.
Much colder this morning, only 3C and some frost on the rooves. Sky is clear so should get some sun today - when it eventually clears the horizon.
Same here - 5c but clear and sun is trying to get out of bed. Much rather have cold and dry than mild and wet for the impending dog walk.
And on the positive side, a week tomorrow we reach the tipping point of the shortest day and then it slowly improves from there. I always consider the 21st as the first day of Christmas, which the Christians stole from the Pagans as it is more likely Jesus was born in either the spring or autumn.
We have haze come over now so it's bright but still not sunny.
I'd rather have mild and wet really since mostly I'm not outside and if I do go out I have waterproofs. But then I don't have to cope with a wet dog.

I put that up years ago, never took it down.
They should make a full size tree version with new car smell. Blows it into the room every so often like those Febreze things. The new scent of Christmas.

A good idea would be for someone to sell miniature 'plant pots', filled with the appropriate scent, that the tree can stand up in. Soak it up like blotting paper. Now I mention it I reckon it would be an easy DIY job :)
As promised here's a picture of the flood at the end of the street. Sadly it hasn't rained in 12 hours so it's not as impressive as usual. Yesterday it was right across the road and up over the pavements. You can see all the water on the pavement closest where cars have gone through. You have to be very careful walking past here as you can get soaked.

I'm up as soon as it's light and it doesn't seem like 5 minutes before I'm closing the curtains and putting the light on. It's effectively dark here by 1530 especially on a dull day like today.
Still, only another week and the days start getting longer.

It's been chucking it down. Just driven back from London and the journey was one of the worst I have ever made: visibility was poor , exacerbated by the spray thrown up by trucks etc. Even worse is you drive at a sensible speed for the road/ weather conditions, yet get some truck or van driver up your arse flashing his lights!
Anyway we were intending to spend Christmas and the New Year in London, but the parking fees are absurd - it would cost us £160 parking fees for the duration. Camden council virtually double the fees over Christmas! Bastards!

1515 I had to put the lights on, it was already almost dark.
Sunday is the shortest day though so we've nearly reached the nadir.
Missed an hour of daylight due to waking up so late. Think Don Revvy must have had a day off as he usually wakes me up about 0800, gunning his engine for five minutes.

Yes, that is what we shall be do on Saturday. I'm not sure if Camden Council are that environmentally aware. I think they are just trying to make a fast buck. We will see if arrangements change back in the New Year to what they were.
Trains at Christmas are horrendous. Jammed full of poxy students and shouting children.
Actually anytime I get a train more than half the passengers look like poxy students. No wonder they graduate with huge debts, must partly be from travelling around so much.

6C (but feels like 4C or lower) and foggy which which will clear. No rain forecast.
Further to the above, I have been surprised to see the sun burn off the overnight dew. I thought initially it was from a car exhaust wafting across, or maybe someone was doing some washing. But no - it was dew evaporating and looked like the misty steam in a tropical rain forest!
No sun here, 5C.
Looks like it will be chilly over the holiday week. 6C max. Although I'll mostly be at my mother's place which is like a sauna with a broken thermostat all year round.

After two days fitting windows in an unoccupied unheated new build house, navigating mud and site conditions that totally defy any notion of Health & Safety, I've enjoyed a day of never leaving the house :) Looks a bit cold out there though.
No sign of a white Christmas, just the usual chilly grey miserableness.
I've only crossed the doors once - to go to the chippy.
Handy having a decent chippy just in the next street over. The sort of thing you dream of.

In my teens we had a chippy just 60 seconds walk from our front door. Don't know why it was called Skinny Jim's, it was run by a huge Greek woman who served similarly huge portions, and when she shook the vinegar onto the chips you could see the droplets falling from her dense black armpit hair. Still very good chips though.
In Liverpool we had Mike and Aki's on the next block. They were Greek Cypriots. Top chippy.
About the end of the 70s they got a Chinese bloke in the back doing Chinese food. He came out once to say hello to my father, who was his best customer. My father wouldn't eat British food so he was in there almost every night once it started doing the Chinese.
Chinese feller was about four foot six and looked about a hundred years old.

Started out dry, then the rain returned at 8am. I wasn't planning to leave the house, turns out one of us needs to go out to buy a picture frame. So that'll be me then, the alternative is to stop in and help wrap Christmas presents.
Dull here. Very dull. Also it's cold. Been to the Sainsbury which was a lot busier than normal for a Sunday morning but I suppose that's only to be expected so close to Christmas.
Met Office long range forecast is typically vague but looks like we'll be spared the horrors of snow at least for the first half of January. Viewers in Scotland will have their own forecast.
9C and cloudy. Have to go down to the local library to type a letter as my printer has decided it's not going to work for me!

Printers can be a nightmare. Cheap enough to buy, but then they get you on the ink costs. We bought a new one earlier this year, and it cost about 20 quid more than ink for the old one. I think buying good ink cartridges for the old printer would have been the 'green' option, but I'm not the boss of printers here.

We have a guest staying with us from Africa. He asked if it would snow, as he has only ever seen snow on TV and would like to experience it in reality. Looks like he will have to wait until late January/ early February for snow here. Anyway as I told him snow only looks picturesque when in the country and freshly fallen. In towns once people get out and use their cars, the snow quickly gets churned up into a dirty mess. :doh:

When I was at university the students from Hong Kong would get very excited when it snowed. We were up on a hill out in the countryside so we'd sometimes get a foot or more of it. They'd all be outside making snowmen while us British students sat indoors in the warm complaining about the inconvenience.
Anyway forecast for Christmas is sunny and dry. Cold, but not stupid cold.

Thanks for the update.
Thankfully not in Quebec, where it is freezing cold (my nephew lives in Toronto) and they are rabidly Christian. In Tel Aviv, where Christmas is a non-event, but a 30-minute train ride and I'm sure it was all happening in Jerusalem and Bethlehem yesterday.
Got married here 32 years ago to the day, to the same woman I came here with, most of our family is here, including one of our kids, looking to retire here in 5 years or so. It's more expensive than Central London. 2 days before I left a new DAC turned up (Aqua Formula xHD v2), got about 2 hours listening, so something to look forward to the I get back to the cold. Downgraded to Atlas Equator speaker cables, which turned out to be an upgrade. Israeli Philharmonic tomorrow night, about 10 of us going. Should be fun.

I think you guys 'darn sarf' are getting cloud today, but up here it is sunny with little cloud. Still feels bloody cold though. I should have the house to myself for much of the day, and there's nowhere I need to be, so I'll continue with my Christmas gifts (only two CDs and one LP this years though).
Still, as I turn 68 in six days time, I expect there'll be more tunes to come :)

Gritters went past the house a couple of hours ago, looks like things might get a bit colder. Only reason for the gritting is that it used to be a bus route till about 20 years ago, and GritterMan didn't get the memo.
We do sometimes get grit and we're not on a bus route. They don't grit the pavements though so not really any difference to me if they grit or not.
Supposed to reach zero tonight with no wind so might get a frost.
Going to be much colder here from the weekend on. Barely gets above zero even in the day.

It might make a difference if you're skating along the pavement while listening to Ravel's Bolero on your Walkman and a car sliding sideways down the road finds you :eek: Maybe get some of these, glasses with rear view mirror, better safe than sorry :)

A bit warmer today 4c, still dry
3C here, sun has just come out for the first time this morning.
Clear and sunny but only 3c. Looks likely to stay similar until Tuesday.
Now reached a balmy 3C here now.

Not a cloud in the sky, a lovely day but flipping nippy.
New Year's Eve. Another pointless day where I accomplish nothing.
Did go round to the Sainsbury but I forgot a lot of people have this week off work so it was a madhouse. Plus half the self-service terminals are down so had to queue to pay. Presumably they outsource the support and the support people are all on holiday.
Not feeling as cold as it should do I think because there's no wind or even a breeze.
I foolishly thought Tesco would be quiet at 4pm on New Year’s Eve… struggled to find a parking space, then a trolley, and half of what I wanted was out of stock, after battling with the zombies who seemed to have no purpose other than getting in my way at every opportunity.
Fire is blazing so nice and warm now, counting down to Jools if I manage to stay awake that long!
Talking Pictures TV are having a New Year's do starting at 2235 I might check that out. Holland is too irritating and not seen a good one in years now.
