Raining when I went to bed last night and it's still raining now.
Weekend to be wet but next week showing as dry and sunny.
We’ve got a bit of a break from the rain, but it’s supposed to continue until the morning. 40+ mph winds from 7pm hitting 50 mph in the morning. My daughter and 8 friends are supposed to be camping tonight!

Just checked that and we have gale force winds starting today, there's even a 'yellow warning' for tomorrow, gusting up to 54mph!
Reminds me one time camping with the school in south of France. The third formers put their tent up with three pegs holding it down. We (the sixth formers) told them to do it properly but they wouldn't listen.
That night, huge storm, winds it was hard to stand up in. They were out in the rain hanging onto the guy ropes trying to stop their tent from blowing away whilst we sat laughing and shouting abuse. Better than the telly.
They also didn't listen to the warnings about covering up in the sun and we were doing 20 mile hikes each day. Two of them got heatstroke, one really bad, he was lying in the tent white as a sheet and delirious.
That sounds like a memorable trip, but not helping me to not be worried about my daughter! :lol:

I once suffered heatstroke when trekking in Mauritania. In my case it was due to dehydration - I simply wasn't drinking enough water.
The symptoms for me were exhaustion and delirium: I just wasn't making any sense when I spoke, although my enunciation was clear and not slurred.
The lesson learned is to drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.

Used to go every year with the school, 3 days in Paris then two weeks in the south, obligatory trip to Lourdes as it was a Jesuit school. My suggestion that we instead visit the U Boat pens in St Nazaire was ruthlessly rejected. Interestingly, Himmler also went to a Jesuit school and modelled the SS organization on it.

A very wet 12c so far
Looks like you are going to be hammered later on. So are we - but the winds are only predicted up to around 60mph.
In the west they might go to 75mph - so good luck with that.
Starting to take precautions in case of power cuts, falling stuff etc.
Logs ready for the fire, hot water in thermos flasks etc.
I'm hoping we won't actually have a power cut, but earlier we had one which trashed all our freezer food - which lasted almost 2 days.

Has anybody noticed it's getting a bit blowy out there? Rainfall is closer to horizontal than vertical right now which isn't good.

Nah that's cheating. One thing about camping is that you get an appreciation as to why houses and beds were invented.

No. He just used to say 'That costs money you know!' Which was pretty much his answer to any request for anything.

Another sign that you are not drinking enough water is the colour of your urine. The rule is you should drink enough water to create copious, clear and pale (or straw coloured) urine.
Once when trekking (this time in Gabon), when I went to have a pee, I was somewhat shocked to find it was near fluorescent orange in colour! :eek: A litre of water soon put that right.

The storm caused a power cut here yesterday, turns out it also made a telegraph pole catch fire which was probably the most exciting thing to happen in these parts since they trimmed the grass verges. It's still blowy now. Personally I prefer it to 30 degree heat and not being able to sleep.
The cat has crazy moments in weather like this. I seem to remember reading that their moods are susceptible to air pressure changes. I imagine people are affected by that too but we don't really understand it.

After a very stormy night, no real damage although the cover for the BBQ has disappeared, very wet but no flooding this time.
Yesterday there was almost continuous rain, varying in intensity from fine drizzle to short but intense downpours.
Today has started as a bright sunny day in a blue sky with a few cumulus clouds, but is predicted to get windy with showers expected early afternoon.

Seems mostly OK today so far - though it's still quite windy and very wet. As far as I can tell nothing really heavy has dropped off the trees - but I'm not rushing to go out.
I might riak it a lot later - but I don't want to encounter any falling tree branches, or even whole trees. Probably better to wait until tomorrow.
A lot of trees and branches still haven't been cleared away from the last bout of stormy weather around a month back - simply pushed into fields or the sides of the roads.
So far the electricity has held up - though that doesn't mean it won't go off.
Dry at the moment and sunny spells but wind up to 50mph gusts. Daughter and her friends thought better of the tent and camped in her friend’s living room!

Same here, but the sun is trying to poke through the clouds now. Drizzly an hour ago but set to be dry and hit 19c.
Getting a bit brighter here now so there's hope.

Misty start here and now it's just dull. Feels colder too.
14C and mostly cloudy. Expected to reach 16C later.
Still hazy but not a bad afternoon; crisp in the autumn style.
Stayed dry and not too cold, so cut the grass and trimmed the lollipop trees, hopefully for the last time this year on both counts.
Dull and chilly, looks like it rained quite a bit overnight.
Same here, very autumnal and I’m wondering why I bothered clearing up leaves yesterday as the trees are shedding them like it’s snowing.

Did the same here, I also gave the cherry tree a good shake, that should do me for a day or two. Little and often, that's my plan this autumn.
I don't bother with leaves fallen on the ground - I only insist on clearing wet leaves from off my car.

We've got Green Thumb coming round on Wednesday to do some autumn lawn treatment, and the grass needs to be leaf-free ideally. Or maybe Anita made that up to get me off my arse and doing something.

Agree that if you are having your lawn treated it needs to be free of fallen leaves.
However my 'lawn' is not good enough to be called a lawn: that is why when I get the mower out, it is to "cut the grass", and not "to mow the lawn". :D

14C currently, and sun is out now.
Good day all round - a few weeks ago I fitted a new front door for a customer, but due to a cock-up it had to be replaced at the supplier's expense. Now the supplier has sold me the "wrong" door at a bargain price £425, down from the £1210 it was originally. And it's a perfect fit for my daughter's house, so in it went :) That will have earned me "superdad" status, and no doubt a decent Christmas pressie this year.

I know from previous years you struggle with the gloomy weather Dave - is there anything you can do to make it more bearable? I have a mate who suffers with SAD in the winter months, he reckons extra vitamin D helps.

It's been surprisingly sunny, veering towards warm in the afternoons, and dry up here in the frozen wastes - at least for the last few days. Nicest weather I can remember at this time of year for quite a while in these parts.
Today is a little better and brighter than yesterday. 15C, so still need a coat when venturing outdoors.
Dull here, got back from Liverpool an hour or so ago and it's dull there too. No wind though.
Next bit of sunshine seems to be Monday according to the forecast.

Sue has designs on us doing the last car boot sale of the year on Sunday morning, sadly it looks like the weather will be dry enough in the morning so there goes my weekly lie in!

Been disappointingly grey all week, next to no sun. I'd always associated high pressure with plenty of sunshine with chilly nights this time of year. What we got instead was a bag of shite.
Might get some sun tomorrow ahead of the wind and rain.

Rain arrived here a few minutes ago. Feels quite chilly too. But there's nowhere outdoors I need to be until at least Wednesday, maybe things will be better by then.
We've been in London this weekend. Coming back this afternoon it started to rain; the traffic was horrendous: a complete traffic jam on two traffic light controlled roundabouts, and because of the snail-pace progress the windscreen of my car was misting up badly. Eventually got onto the M25, by which time the rain was torrential so there was spray to contend with. Even so I was able to drive at 60 - 70mph, because people were sensibly leaving large gaps between cars and indicating well in advance when changing lanes.
And as always the way, the rain eased off and stopped when we got home.

Might have been the North Circular A406, or on the A11 - I'm not sure, as I was following the satnav.
Not had problems before, but the weather has never been so bad as it was this afternoon.

But nobody can explain the fact that when you go out it is fine, whilst you are out it pours down with rain, you get soaked, and when you return home it stops raining! :scratch:

I can explain it in just three words: THIS IS BRITAIN :)
British clouds are so clever, and capable of working through quite complex situations. I went out to put some fuel in the van earlier, and the rain started just as I arrived at the petrol station. Which wouldn't have been a thing as the forecourt is under cover, but I was also topping the air in the tyres which is out in the open :doh: Of course the rain stopped when I set off back home...
started here with rain then an hour of sun and now it's doing nothing. Not sunny but still too bright to be called dull.

Had a devil of a job this morning persuading a customer that today wasn't a good day to make a hole in the side of her house big enough to drive a car through. She just didn't believe the forecast, so I'm glad it's pissing down.

Woke up to first frost since last spring this morning, the car's well frozen over. It shouldn't come as a surprise, the sky was very black last night with a lot of stars.
Cat woke me at 6 am by sticking her bum in my face (her usual tactic) - I was about to tell her to do one, but then realised that she thought it was 7 am because no one had told her about the clocks going back :doh:

Very chilly here. Was up early due to stupid clocks going back but didn't break my rule about not getting up until it's daylight.

It's going to rain all day here until the late afternoon. :(
went for a walk it's quite pleasant in a sort of mid-autumn way. Reasonably mild and the sun came out a couple of times.

Wet here, in fact it became so overcast this afternoon that I put the lights on at 3.30pm and closed the curtains.
Mostly clear sky here now.
It was pretty meh, but at least I’m not in Jamaica or Cuba.

Mostly sunny here today, and quite pleasant. Then the rain started about half an hour ago.

Weekend supposed to be sunny.
Dry so far, and mild at 15c. Rain due later, but sadly it will have mostly gone by the time the trick or treaters start doing their rounds.
It’s okay though, I’ve put my Halloween decorations up already.

Anita's sons will be taking granddaughter out trick or treating later. We'll be stopping in with the lights off, waiting for them to return with hopefully some decent treats. Shouldn't be any of yer pound shop crap as we're quite posh round here :)
The weather is really grotty here. Went to the shops, in the car as it was raining quite hard. Of course it stopped once we arrived! :doh: Now it has brightened up. Shame really as it would have deterred the "trick or treaters".
Think I will draw all the curtains, switch off the hall light and pretend we are not in. Bloody Halloween - another stupid import from America!
The advantage round here is they're mostly foreign so they've no concept of any of it. Just another day for them.
Think I've only had trick or treaters round twice in 27 years.
Heavy rain here now - so dark it's like night time.
It's stayed dry and still incredibly mild at 14c now! We had one trick or treater - he was on his own, about 6'4" and with an Eastern European accent. He was incredibly polite, gave the dog some fuss which the dog loved, took only one small packet of sweets and was very grateful. My wife had to force him to take a few more for himself, then enquired if he had any brothers and sisters (he did, a younger sister) before she forced more sweets on him for his family, gratefully acknowledged.
As predicted there was no Halloween related activity here, other than someone setting off a few fireworks. Which is really a bonfire night thing but I suppose these days it all just rolls into one.

We got quite a few trick or treaters, more than normal. But then we had 3 hollowed out pumpkins with lit candles inside next to the front door (not my doing). Which must have looked like a good bet to any passing freeloaders. Also I think they communicate with each other ("Go to number 63, unlimited Haribo there, and no 'Fuck off' sign next to the door").
Granddaughter came back with quite an impressive haul, easily equal to what Anita had doled out. Including a KitKat chunky. I'll be havin' that tomorrow.
Forecast to be four degrees colder tomorrow, oh what joy.
