Hello from Bucks

Well my name is Fred and I live in High Wycombe, sound like a starter for an AA meeting, I have a habit and it is like a black hole and will consume all your money.
Suppose I'd better list what I am using at the moment; Sources are a Linn Accurate DS with Dynamic PS, Notts Analogue Spacedeck with Rega 900 and either a VDH frog or a Lyra Argo feeding into a Krell 300i via Project SE phono Stage and finally the speakers are a pair of Focal 936 Electra's.
This little lot is all set up in a large room but has to share space with the rest of the family including a nine month year boy who seems to double as a mobile destruction zone.
My other half is also very involved with HI FI and thinks are next upgrade should be a pair of indecently sized horns. I just want the valves to go with it.
On the music front I have a moderate collection of CD and vinyl of about thousand of each of all sort of types, she is into dance and electronic stuff while I tend to more catholic in my tastes, and she likes it loud. I have just replaced the tweeters on the Focal's for the second time.

Hope you don't mind a suggestion but your Project phono stage while okay is not good enough to get the best out of either of your cartridges.

I would look to that first imho before valves or horns.

The Project was an stop gap when my black cube statement died last year, yet to get round to replacing it but I am thinking along the lines of an noteworthy device or another valve based design.

Welcome Fred - I'm not sure if a wife that blows your tweeters is a good or bad thing, but you are certainly lucky that you have a shared passion! As you'll guess from my avatar (just turned two) my biggest problem is little fingers prodding tweeters and being very interested in daddy's spinning records... :doh: Out of the way for the moment, but I can foresee a Marco style 6ft high rack and stepladder for changing records before too long!

One of mine is past sticking his fingers in the speakers but I have now gained a bent needle on my Argo i so not a good night at the moment:steam: and surprise surprise no one did it! The other has just started to crawl so the grills are now back on the speakers. Little people and hifi is a dangerous game until they learn and then not even safe all the time.

Hi and welcome.You are indeed a lucky man to have an other half who loves the hifi too.My missus likes the noise mine makes,but isn't into the kit at all,s I guess I'm halfway there!

If you are looking for a valve amp for horns,I guess you will be looking at a good SE amp?

I have just replaced the tweeters on the Focal's for the second time.
Get a pair of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250429561888&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) & wire one in series with each tweeter, problem solved :eyebrows:

Good idea for the fuses, I could just volume limit the wife though! If I am brave enough though it is getting expensive at over two hundred quid for a pair of tweeters. I suppose I should be thankful that I can still get them for a pair of ten year old speakers, even if I did have to wait three months for them.
Funny thing is that she has never broken the stand in speakers which were Pro Ac Tablets? These have been in and out of my system for fifteen years.
