This has been the mainstay of my system for several years but I'm "downgrading" from streaming to a CD source with an old school dac for a while and need to clear out my unused components.
Audio Gd are famous for tuning their dacs by ear rather than measurements. It would suit someone who doesn't like a bright, hyper-detailed sound, and wants a more analogue/natural sound from their digital. It uses a pair of WM8741 chips known for their good sound. There are 9 filter settings.
The pre amp section has a resistor ladder with 48 steps and a high/low gain setting to better match the power amp sensitivity, giving 96 levels in total. It is also remote controlled. There is an internal jumper to bypass the pre amp if volume should be fixed (although I think the high/low gain still functions).
The output stage is fully discrete with no op amps as can be seen in the photos.
The headphone amp has both balanced and unbalanced outputs and can drive virtually any headphone.
The power supply is very good with a large R core transformer and plenty of power. It is a proper 240v model.
I'm after £250 plus postage which I think is good value for such a Swiss army knife of a device. Postage won't be too cheap as it's quite a heavy beast. Collection from outer N London is possible.
