Art of sound have noting to do with this auction , i do not ether , please beawear the Fees Can be 30% ,
Some interesting stuff there especially the B&W Nautilus 804.

I'm sort of tempted by the Musical Fidelity M6 Vinyl phono stage, which retailed at about £1400. But I just can't be arsed. Be nice if you could turn up in person, but it looks like it'll be online only. Plus it's too far away.
Potentially some bargains to be had there. Leema Tucana II and Leema Agena phono stage, est. £500-£700, these units are around £4k each new.
The guide prices seem way off to me. Some are way too high - £60 for a dusty old Audiolab tuner you could find on the kerb? £300 for a good condition SL1210 Mk2 when they go for £700 plus all day on ebay?
£30 for a Beocentre 1400? Aren't they now collector's items? You even get some Wharfdale Diamond 9 and a cassette tape thrown in!

Yeah, at the end of the day it comes down to what anyone who can be arsed bidding is willing to go to. I really would be interested if you could bid in person and it was nearer.

Yes if it was local I would go along and maybe take a punt at some of the lots. I didn't go through the details but I think the fee is 24 percent. But if you only pay £20 that's just an extra fiver.

Just seen on their website, the address, and mention made of viewing times, and "extensive parking for easy loading/unloading", so I suppose you can bid in person. Wiltshire though...

12" SME arms don't often come up for sale. That one looks to be in good condition and complete, and £200 is a good price.
Tandberg tape recorders were IMO always underrated, and those being auctioned look to be in good condition and at a very good price.
But as with the SME arm I would want to inspect the items.

No that doesn't interest me either.
If anything I ought to auction off the absurd amount of audio gear I have but don't really use.

These auction sites seem to do a good job for the seller price-wise. In the past year I've followed online auctions for sales of items from John Peel's estate and Danny Baker and have been priced out of getting as little as one LP from any of them since everything, even ordinary items, ends up going for over £100. The 'buyer's premium' is something to watch out for however I'm not sure who is able to afford all this stuff at the winning prices (probably hardcore dealers who know exactly what they're after, rather than average fans).

So you can see what the winning bids were? I'd be interested to see that.
From what I've seen on TV, it looks like the buyer pays a premium which has been added to the cost (presumably goes to the auctioneer), and the seller also has some fees to pay out of the sale. Shouting out numbers and banging a gavel looks like easy money to me, it's not even like they're any good at valuing stuff, I could do that.

I registered for the auction, sat patiently at my screen, hovered over the ‘bid now’ button for the lot I was interested in, had a quick bid and then was left far, far behind as the bids rose to a level which was well above what I was prepared to pay.
On a more serious note, many auction houses update their on-line catalogues with hammer prices for previous auctions.
I’ve just had a look at the Wessex web site (I’m lucky - just down the road from me) & have had a quick run through the catalogue for 29th August.
All of the hammer prices are there and that Leema went for a fair bit more than the estimate (not surprised in the slightest)!
Oh and going back to one of the earlier posts about combining a trip to the auction with Stonehenge, well having previously lived in Wiltshire ………..

Yes I saw those results too - as you say the Leema combo went for a fair bit more than the estimate, though at £2,600 iirc is not bad compared to new rrp of nearly £8k I suppose. And a Musical Fidelity phono stage (which I was interested in, but too lazy to bid on) went for £320 (compared to new price of about £1400) so pretty good bargains really.
Just a shame these things always come along when funds are in short supply, which unfortunately is all the time these days :(
