For those far more experienced and more engineering & technically minded, please bear with me ! I have just purchased a “pre-loved / owned” SME10 the previous owner has faithfully documented in the owners manual each motor and platter bearing lubrication in accordance with SME’s recommended intervals, although surprisingly there is no record of any belt changes.

My thoughts are as follows:

New belt - The SME equivalent from eBay at £19.99 seems very well regarded, unless overwhelming arguments from those more knowledgeable persuade me to invest the £72.00 for the one from SME.

Bearings - According to the records in the manual, both platter and motor are due to be lubricated. Again, as above, I’m inclined to use the Audio Origami Booster Turntable PTFE Bearing Oil Kit at £16.99 which is highly recommended by several SME owners, especially for older turntables. The SME oil, as you have probably guessed, is significantly more expensive, in fact considerably more expensive than nearly every other turntable manufacturers OEM lubricant, at a cool £59.95.

Then comes the real challenge, surely at some point all that “old” lubricant needs to be cleaned out ? So how would I go about that, or is it something not to be attempted by a novice ?
