New Bond

Looks like Denis Villeneuve will be directing the next one.

Not sure about that. He says he's a fan since childhood but the only film he's done that I've seen was the dismal Blade Runner sequel.

Still not known who will play Bond. Favourite is Aaron Taylor-Johnson who I suppose does look the part and he was good in the 'Kick Ass' films.

I suppose since they killed Bond off in the last miserable effort they can start again with a clean slate but I'm not holding out too much hope.

Franchise has been sold to Amazon/MGM in the meantime.

Aside from crap stories and direction the biggest problem with Craig era Bond was involving the regular supporting characters - Q, M, Moneypenny - in the action.

Anyone with a basic grasp of storytelling knows that these characters only exist for exposition purposes and to add a bit of comic relief. Q getting impatient with Bond's casual attitude, M getting irritated by Bond being a know-it-all. Moneypenny acting like a mother hen.

They're not supposed to actually be in the adventure - you're supposed to invent new, interesting characters for that. So lazy and amateurish.

I couldn't care less about future Bond sequels. All of the Ian Fleming Bond books have been filmed with uneven success. Any new Bond films will be action films based on the characters, most likely with a lot of 'gee whizz' CGI special effects.

With respect to Denis Villeneuve's direction of 'Bladerunner 2049', I thought it was a good sequel, hampered by a complicated story line covering the chain of events that cover the collapse of the Tyrell Corporation through to their recovery decades later. That, and the new development of Replicants, mean the film needs to be viewed several times (including the extras) for it to make sense.

I think you are probably right - having just worked with a colleague on a relatively low profile AI project it is actually terrifying how good it is, likely to be out of a job in the next 24 months max.

Dr No first one I saw, I think it was the first time it was on the telly. In black and white as we were on holiday in some grotty flat in Wales at the time. Hooked instantly.

Read all the books while at school - the English teacher called them 'pulp novelettes'. Which I suppose they are, really.
