Hi to all,

been lurking for a while, so thought it was time that I said hello. Hello !!!

Originally from Liverpool, but now living in West London. My name is John and I'm an audiophile (well, my wife says so, but I wouldn't necessarily admit it!).

I'm now +40 (how did that happen??) and music tastes are still dictated by my youth. Hence, Indie (loads), new wave, electronica, but more recently (due to system/age?) have developed a liking for vocalists (eg Damien Rice,Fink,Adele etc).

Current system betrays far too much spent lurking here and elesewhere, as follows:

Sources: SB Touch, Beresford 7520 (w/passive mod...wow!), 1210,Nima,AT33ptg,ANT Kora LE
Amp: EE minimax, Behringer Sonic Exciter (yes,really!), Flying Mole
Speakers: Proac Response 2.5
I've got loads of other stuff that I'm too indolent to sell (open to offers!) eg LP12,Lenco 75,SB+,TVC preamp,Jungson 88D,DL103+Auditorium23 etc etc
Current wishlist to try includes Timestep PSU, LDR preamp,TA2020, active speakers and loads of other toys!
Anyhow, young family,job etc mean that I don't have much chance to post, but may contribute occasionally with very daft questions (please be gentle!)...

Hi John, welcome to AoS chap :) I hope you enjoy your stay, looks like you have been here a while with that setup :eyebrows:

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask :) You gotta ask to get answers after all ;)

Sounds like you're not too interested in vinyl replay:

No matter, welcome to the forum and feel free to ask all the 'daft' questions you like. We have several 'daft' experts here!

Hi Barry. Vinyl is still a big thing for me. I've recently sidelined the Lenco and am listening via the Technics 1210. For me, it makes a good match with the unipivot Nima arm.

Very sweet and open/detailed. I suspect it is way ahead of most of the integrateds in its price band. For me it maybe lacks a little "grunt" in the bass, and a little in general excitement. Overall very good though.

I'm relaying this third hand, so forgive me on this one. The Sonic Exciter may be needed because of the Flying Mole - if you know where I'm going on this. Maybe you've tried other amps, but I'd love to hear what you think of, say, a Croft Series 7 and especially the "R" version in comparison.

Glad you like the Nima on the 1200.

Hi, your comment re the Sonic Exciter is interesting. I see the benefits as i)tone control (it's probably not very pc but I like to be able to tweak according to what I'm listening to), and ii) impedance matching - the Moles input imp is only 10K I think whereas the minimax is fairly high output imp. It has a bypass option, which I use quite often, and it is surprisingly transparent when not active. Would be interested in what your third hand said though:).

I think the Nima adds soundstage and musicality to the 1210/1200 which is what is lacked against eg the Lenco
